The 'Dirrell got robbed against Froch' myth

I'm hearing a lot of people say this. I watched the fight live and thought it was very close. I wasn't sure who had won. Dirrell was very negative in the fight, running, spoiling, holding a lot and complaining to the referee. Froch wasn't able to get off like usual and was quite clumsy in his attacks. I didn't score it round by round but I knew it was close.

Then I watched the fight again. Then I watched it a third time with the sound off and here's what I saw.

Rd. 1- Dirrell throws quite a lot of long-range shots but barely any land. He's quicker than Froch. Froch lands the best shot of the round, a hard right hand to the body with 1.03 left on the clock. Soon after Dirrell turns southpaw Carl lands a good jab coming forward which backs Dirrell off. Then a right hand to the body again...then another seconds later. Dre doesn't do **** for the last 30 seconds of the round but MISS with a quick jab. 10-9 Froch

2- Very uneventful round, barely any shots landed. Froch stalking, Dirrell backing away and not doing mch. Couple of decent jabs by each. Froch lands a decent right-left to the body with 1.26 left. Dirrell lands a good left hook counter at 1.17 and moves off the ropes leaving Froch there. Good left to the body from Dre. Froch is pressing the action more, neither land very much; both are 80 % of the time out of range. 10-9 Dirrell (coulda gone either way)

3- Straight left from Dre misses then a left hook cuffs the side of Carl's head. Froch lands a right inside then a left hook as they break. Froch backs Dirrell along the ropes with jabs. Dirrell lands a good right to the body with 1.51 left. Pot shots soon after with a jab and straight backhand. Froch lands a right to the body and Dirrell scurries away...Dirrell lands a good left to the midsection at 1.01. Froch reponds with a str8 right to the stomach. With 45 secs on the clock Froch lands a good right hand that SNAPS Dirrell's head back (he actually fell into the ropes and if not for the ropes would most likely have gone down; this could have been a KD)...soon after 2 decent straight lefts to the body from AD. Dirrell very negative at the end of the round - basically running without countering. 10-9 Froch

4- Not much in the first minute. Good left hook/right hand combo from Dirrell with 1.48 left. Throws a 3 or 4 punch combo soon after but only lands the right hand to the chest. Froch is still advancing. Right hand to the body by CF at 1.08 left. Good right hook to the body by Froch at .45, Dirrell slides along the ropes. Both miss punches. With about 15 secs left Froch traps Dirrell in the corner. Lands a glancing right hand and misses with a left hook; Dirrell leans down and holds. It was a very close round (Al Bernstein said these exact words). 10-10

5- Dirrell being a little more positive, lands a great str8 right at 2.34 left. AD lands a good right to the body with 2 mins left. Str8 left to the body by AD at 1.41. They exchange jabs. Froch lands a good right hook with .33 left. 10-9 Dirrell

6- Uneventful round. Froch traps Dirrell in the corner and AD goes down- protests to the ref who says no KD. Moments later as Froch throws a couple of power shots (misses) Dirrell holds Froch around the middle and goes down on his knees. Complains again to the ref (about what who knows, he was the one who grabbed Carl and went down on his knees). Froch misses a big left hook, Dirrell holds again. Froch lands a strong right hand with 1.41 in the clock. then a left hook. AD runs without throwing anything back. Froch lands a nice right hand when AD's in the corner. then he clings to Froch like a koala (ref shoulda taken a point cos AD was clearly hurt and clearly spoiling by holding so Froch couldn't unload further). Froch then complains to the ref AND his corner because Froch hit him when he was holding; but he hit Froch first, at 1.28 and Froch simply retaliated. Dirrell keeps running, landing occasional jabs. Dirrell holds and bulldozes Carl into the ropes hanging onto him. Dirrell ONCE AGAIN goes to his knees at .13, he complains to his corner (once again I dont know why, Froch didn't do ****, Dirrell just went down as Froch lined up a right hand). 10-9 Froch

6 rounds down I had Froch winning 3-2 with 1 even.

7- Dirrell complaining repeatedly again. Good left from AD. Froch unloads towards the end of the round as Dirrell moans. 10-9 Froch.

I got stuff to do but of the last 5 I gave Dirrell 3 rounds so that's 6-5-1 even for Froch, point is it was close.

Oh yeah I totally agree Froch wins the fight by landing a total of 17 punches, landing a whopping 4% of his total punches.

    Yeah, easily. Cool story bro

Im british and I thought dirrel won the fight, you can't let your emotions get in the way when your trying to score a fight impartial...and a lot of people do, especially considering how negative dirrell was I can see why people slam him for his performance, but thats all you can say...it was a bad performance. To be honest when he stood his ground and let his hands go froch looked like he could get knocked out, or knocked down at least. The only real punches froch was landing was in clinches, and in my opinion he also lost more rounds. There have been worse decisions, it was fairly close but the most I could ever see it giving froch the benefit of the doubt on any close round was a draw. Dirrell should learn from the experience and if he gets another shot at froch, he should fight a little more brave and stand in the pocked a little more because like I said I believe he could knock froch out.

I had Dirrell winning but he fought negative (he was better against AA) and ran so I'm not bothered he lost.

PPL need to just except that even if you land more ineffective slaps than your opponent in a round, all of the running, holding, and intentional falling to the floor can influence scoring and lose you a round that you could have won should you have taken a step forward just once.

Dirrell lost himself the fight and in no way deserved to win a world title.
