This fight has the makings of an instant classic.
While it didn't suit Tszyu to fight Hatton that way, it would be right up Chico's alley.
They only thing that worries me is Diego is comming off consecutive fights against Cassamayor (x2), Frietas, and Castillo. And I don't need to tell you how violent that fight with Castillo was. At some point, Corrales is going to have to relax a bit. He's fighting world class opponents at a torrid pace.
I don't think anyone would question Corrales taking his power up with him. If anything, I think it will allow him to take a better shot, because it must be very tough for him to make 135 with how big he is.
Corrales is 5'11, Hatton is 5'7 (Tszyu was also 5'7)
I think the most important compairison to draw if this fight were to happen, is how would you rate Hatton's punching power and overall strength against that of Jose Louis Castillo (5'8)? AND, how do you rate Corrales' punching power vs that of Tszyu?
Personally, I think Hatton would be making a mistake by trying to bully and out slug Corrales, and I'm not sure anything else would be effective for him.
I'd take Corrales to stop Hatton late in a great fight.Comment

I disagree. Corrales won't want to see a slightly bigger and overall more powerful version of Castillo coming at him. We know that Ricky is going to do everything to win just like Corrales will.Corrales has had too many hard fights back to back and it'll show against a overachieving blue-collar guy like Ricky.
I'd pick Ricky to wear down and stop Corrales just like Castillo should have. His body assault and workrate are comparable to Castillo's and we know he can take a punch as well. I think he hits a bit harder than JLC and that would really make the difference. Ricky Hatton KO 9 Diego Corrales in a high action bout.
One thing is for sure, both of these guys get major respect if this fight happens....although Corrales won't have much of a career left afterwards...Comment

That's the problem.
I don't know if I agree with that. I think Castillo is just as strong as Hatton, if not more so. It would be crazy to assume Hatton's chin is any better than Castillo's either.
Its just guesswork at this point.
Only one way to find out thoughLast edited by Bozo_no no; 06-05-2005, 09:52 PM.Comment

Hatton is an aggressive body puncher and should play well to Corrales really well. However, this is such a close matchup because sometimes Corrales looks so one dimensional and has a questionable chin. Not to say that Hatton isnt.
I think Hatton would defeat Corrales by a late stoppage, he is bigger and stronger and quicker than Castillo and I think his power and bullying tactics would get to Corrales.
Hattons workrate would defeat Corrales alone, Corrales tends to get lazy and sleep in all of his fights. Even his valiant effort against Castillo did he slack off a bit and take a nap. Corrales just gets lazy.
Screw Corrales moving up 140 is deep enough. While Corrales is truly the man at 135, I would still rather see him in against the likes of some of the top 130 pound fighters and that rematch with Castillo.
140 is interesting with Corrales their is no doubt about that, but something needs to be done at 140 where the best fight the best and quit talking and act upon it.
Hatton vs Tszyu was the first major step, Mayweather vs Gatti follows it lets hope that slut
Cotto goes against Vivian after Abdullaev.
Hatton vs Tszyu
Gatti vs Mayweather
Vivian vs Cotto
All of the winners of those fights fighting each other, wow could you believe it. That should keep the 140 pound division hot and heavy for a while.Comment
