I realise most US viewers won't have seen the undercard or want to discuss it, but those who did see it, what did you think?
I actually found it one of the most entertaining undercards in ages - though probably not for the right reasons.
The problem for me is that if I see a really good pre-match bout I get so emotionally involved in it that I'm drained when it comes for the real thing. But here they entertained us not with action - but with top drawer comedy.
Enzo Macrinelli's start was good enough, a nice one-round demolition job.
Then Danny Williams's tune up opponent - the worst heavyweight in the entire world? - comes out wearing a comedy wig and glasses. Have you ever seen anything so idiotic in your life? The guy starts to fight, and it's like the finest moments of Laurel and Hardy. Almost as if Frank Spencer has donned gloves, this guy has ZERO coordination. Never mind balance, reach, punching stance... this guy can't even walk without falling over. Making it worse is Danny in one of his infamous "head's not in it" off nights. In the end the referee just gets fed up with the crowd laugh hysterically at the guy and calls it off when Danny drops him.
Wayne Alexander and his opponent - both getting caught by a slippy canvas. Constantly trying to throw haymakers and landing on their arses. Quality Chaplinesque boxing. Plus, does Alexander hit like a mule or what? Looking to lose on points he suddenly comes up with his classic plan - hits the guy like a mother****er. I'll try and get an upload of this.
David Barnes. What was that knock down all about? The guy's totally gone, and actually gets up, then sits down after being KDed. He still made the count, but that was worrying. I hope he's alright, he clearly needed a Doctor's check-up, something was wrong there.
All in all, four (did I miss one?) very entertaining fights. But not in terms of boxing.
