I understand, by time he actually has four more fights he might be on the other side of 40 anyway.
I like Haye but why is he already speculating retirement. He's not even 30 yet is he.

He is speculating retirement because he knows if he were to fight another 10-20 fights he'd suffer a few spectacular knockouts. He doesn't have the best chin and his defense sucks -- he knows his limits.

Vitali is fighting Sosnowski on May 31st, so unless that fight is off that's BS. I'll believe it when I see it.

if haye fights ruiz again, i lose all respect to haye (i really dont have that much respect towards him) but anyways if he fights ruiz again, then he does not deserve to fight wlad or vitali..

          anyone agree

Why should anyone take Haye seriously when he says he wants out after four more fights?

You know, I'm slowly starting to warm to Haye, but he does talk a load of rot.

              First off:

That fight could reportedly be worth £10m to each fighter, although the Londoner says his legacy is the only incentive he has in boxing.

"Money doesn't really enter my head in terms of boxing," Haye told BBC Sport.

"All I focus on is being the best boxer I can be. Money is not the reason I want to fight the Klitschko brothers, I want to prove I am the best. By beating them money will follow but for me it's all about the legacy and the glory."
He already had three potential fights lined up against the Klits in 2009 but pulled out due to... money issues!!! (or the "slave contract" as his fans like to call it). If legacy was his only concern, then why didn't he just take the fight with Wlad regardless of whatever ****ty piece of the pie he was getting, beat him, take on Vitali, beat him, then take on Wlad again and seal his dominance over the Heavyweight division for good? The contract might have been crap, but the amount of revenue he would get from sponsors, TV companies and the like would have made him a multi millionaire. And he would, of course, have ensured his legacy. Which is what he wants most of all... right?

              Secondly:

Britain's WBA heavyweight champion David Haye hopes to fight four more times before retiring in 2011.

But Haye, who stopped American John Ruiz in nine rounds in Manchester on Saturday, admitted he might only have time for three.

"I want to retire before I'm 31," 29-year-old Haye told BBC Sport.

"Four fights would be ambitious and I'd need to get cracking so the sooner we can get these fights (with Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko) sorted the better."
So Haye and his fans continually talk about his being the saviour of the Heavyweight division. Yet he only plans to have four more fights (realistically three in his words). What then? Supposing he does beat a Klitschko, does that mean they just disappear from view and never fight again? Of course not. So supposing he retires (or gives them a rematch, wins, and then retires) the Heavyeight division is in exactly the same state it's in as before. How has he changed things in any positive and lasting way?

If you sit down and actually analyse Haye's words, he doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

If he fights either Valuev or Ruiz again then yeah, I'd agree. Chagaev is a decent opponent however. Hope that one materialises.

I agree, Chagaev is a good fight for Haye, if he beats Chagaev decisively he'll convince me he's a legit threat.

Absolutely. At the moment I feel Haye's just bobbing above water regarding his talk-to-action ratio. The Ruiz win was good, but it didn't blow me away. He did exactly what he had to. If he blitzes Chagaev however, then I'll finally be a believer... OOHHH LAWD YES AH WILL!

It also depends on if Valuev wants his rematch,if he does then a Klit/Haye fight wont happen this year
Since Valuev turned down 2.5 million to fight Vitali, he must be counting on the Haye rematch. And as far as I know, Haye has to rematch him and then fight Chagaev/Meehan winner before he can even think about being shark bait for a Klit.
