        That's his fame. He was a movie actor, which made him famous. His martial skill has nothing to do with his fame. His fame brought light to his martial skill. Movies gave him the outlet to let people know martial arts, his philosophy education gave him the ability to better understand and speak coherently on the subject of martial arts.

        You can't just say he wasn't a real martial artist because he was in movies. What does that make Jet Li? If his martial art was so good to the point that the President asked for him to be a personal bodyguard. Does that mean he isn't real because he played in Romeo Must Die?

                      Tesla invented the light bulb. Edison just had more money and resources to smear and destroy tesla's career and rewrite history books since he put tesla out of business.
