He lost to holyfield because he was unprepared. An earlier tyson could have eaten holyfield alive as well as all the other fighters you mentioned.

All you did was point out excuses, not facts. Yes, mike was vicious, an animal at the least. But LOOK at the FACTS. Anyone he fought with real skill, he got no only beat by them but destroyed. Look i like tyson myself but dude any time you get beat by someone named "Buster" its time to hang up the gloves

Mike was great at getting inside and unloading beautiful combos on target, maybe better than any other heavyweight, but he never dealt with tough opposition well. So, overrated? Yeah, somewhat, especially if you're listening to one of his die-hard fans, but realistically speaking he had all the tools to be at the top of the heap, he just didn't have the mental toughness for the job. He could, and still can, draw a big ****ing crowd, though. Gotta hand it to him for that.

Mike will be remembered as one of the greatest simple because the man was Heavyweight Champion of the world before he was old wnough to Drink . Imagine you in your senior year , knocking out grown a** men , and becoming the youngest champion ever ? Some of you couldnt even get a date when you were that age let alone knocking out grown a** men who , had been fighting since you were about 5 years old

Maybe it was just that his reputation as a terrier went before him for a lot of his fights?

If you look at the fights a lot of the guys he was facing were terrified before the first bell...

He 'had' a mean hook though and heavy, heavy hands!

Buster douglas cleaned his clock, holyfield whooped his ass, lewis destroyed his face, Danny Williams "shocked the........." oh wait by this time it was no shock at all, i mean come on this guy even got beat by his Girl Robin Givens. What? Do you disagree.? Tell me why
When Tyson was at the top of his game(Berbick, holmes, spinks, tubbs fights) IMO he was up there with the top heavyweights of all time. But the problem was that he couldn't sustain his greatness and that now he is inconsistent. As far as him fightin chumps his whole career; Holmes,Spinks,Tucker,Smith,Ruddock,Bruno were pretty good chumps.

A prime Tyson had tremendous power, accuracy and speed. I do believe a 1988 Mike Tyson will beat any heavyweight in the history of boxing. However Mike did come in a weak era, but he still fought some good opponents, and totally demolished them. As far as accomplishments go, he accomplished many feats such as being the youngest heavyweight champion at age 20, being the undisputed heavyweight champion, and being the baddest man in the planet. With this and all, I believe many people think Tyson might be overrated because he never overcame any of his losses, and never has beaten any "legends" of this era, eg: Holyfield, Lewis. But it is also a fact that he fought these "legends" after he got out of jail, which we know he was out of his prime and also mentally unstable. So what I'm saying is, I do not believe Tyson was overrated from 1985-1990. But from 1996 to now, he was overrated, but still an attraction.

I know I will almost surely be highly overrating Tyson after he beats McBride in 2 seconds. Always do. Tyson makes me feel like a Cubs fan sometimes. Oh well, I love him anyhow.

One thing about great fighters or those considered to be great they all BEAT another great fighter. I cannot say Tyson has beat any great fighters, but he definately lost to some great ones.
