I think what did it for Roys chin was that he came back waaay to soon after being knocked out in the second Tarver fight, 4 months later he fought Glen Johnson and got knocked out..

Roy had more bruises on his face in that fight than normal, but that's still not saying a lot. If he "normally" got hit 5 times and this time got hit 10 times it still doesn't mean he took anywhere close to a "savage beating".
