    Ali's iron ribcage

i just finished watching Ali-Frazier III (the thrilla in manila) for the first time in years and first of all lemme just say that if you haven't seen this fight, you've gotta watch it - it might be the best boxing match that i've ever seen.

there are lots of comments i could make about this fight, but the biggest thing i was wondering about was this: how the hell could Ali take all of those body shots from Frazier, and still have the juice left in round 14 to tko the guy?? i mean Frazier just slams him to the body over and over again, round after round, lots of good clean body blows, and Ali doesn't even seem to flinch. same thing as when he fought George Foreman, of all people - big george nailed him with some huge body punches, and Ali just took them. talk about an iron ribcage...

i still think, though, that if Frazier had kept his hands up instead of coming in with his head unprotected, he would have been able to last the full 15 and possibly won the decision despite ali's incredible ability and toughness.

Ali's fortified midsection is one of his forgotten strengths. He was rarely ever hurt to the body. I'll never forget the first Chuvalo fight where Ali let George get in something like eight HARD hits to the body, all the while egging him on. Chuvalo was not a one punch finisher, but he was as strong as hell and could just about break you in half with his body blows. Ali had one of the most durable frames of any heavyweight.

thats my one off my favourite fights, many things i cant understand about it, how the hell could they keep thet pace for 14 rounds, how could ali take all those bodyshots and how could frazier take all the savage beatin he did?.

remember ali sai that he never was so close to diyng as in that fight.

Man you ain't lyin! That Ali could take some hella punches.. I don't know how the hell he did it. He was takin shots from George Foreman, arguably the biggest puncher of all time, and it looked like it didn't even phase him. I've never seen something like that in my entire life. Just goes to show how good he really was.

He certainly was a tough b*****d but Henry Cooper knocked him senseless with 1 shot and he only survived due to a bit of gamesmanship. I wouldn't discredit Lewis too much for being ko'd, those shots would have done the same to just about anybody.
