manny steward is good with long rangy fighters(hearns,wlad,lennox..i mean he'll make cotto focus more on the jab..but he'll make his less agressive and thats just not cotto's temperment..i see this going bad..
i dont think steward is the best trainer for cotto

i agree that he doesnt fit the usual manny steward fighter, but a lot of the things manny can teach will benefit cotto. his philosophy is to stay on the jab.
more jabs is a good thing for cotto. he also specializes in developing the back hand, which cotto shouldve done YEARS ago.
imagine cotto with a right hand.Comment

Cotto has always been a methodical aggressor, he has never been a seek and destroy fighter so i dont see why Steward would make him less aggressive.
IMO Cotto's problems stem from the fact his style makes it so he is too hittable, therefore when he tries to Box he sometimes gets embroiled in a fight because he is getting hit.Comment

manny really doesnt teach defense which is what cotto needs..manny teaches his fighters to use the jab as their defense..and cotto doesnt have the range to be effective with that techniqueComment

True, but you also forgot the part where Cotto backpedals when pressured. Cotto needs to stay consistent the problem is his stamina doesn’t allow it.Cotto has always been a methodical aggressor, he has never been a seek and destroy fighter so i dont see why Steward would make him less aggressive.

It pains me as a fan of Cotto to say this but it is true no matter how you slice it.Comment

Maybe not but i think its Cotto's stance that needs adjusting so he does not get hit as much, little tweaks like not standing so flat footed and square on so much of the time.
I heard him on one telecast criticize Cotto's stance and say he was surprised he has gotten away with fighting like that, words to that effect anyway, so he clearly see's that as a problem, so do i tbh.Comment
