Sources indicate that two-division world champion Edwin Valero could be able to leave the San Juan de Dios psychiatric facility in Mérida, Venezuela as soon as Friday or Saturday. Valero’s lawyer Nilda Mora stated that Valero has reacted very well to rehab and won’t have to spend a lot of there since the process of detoxification goes quite fast. A Mérida judge ordered Valero into rehab after he allegedly assaulted his wife (which she denies), threatened medical staff at the Universitario de Los Andes Hospital and resisted arrest. Valero attributed his behavior to alcohol. Other sources indicate that Valero’s representative José Castillo is continuing to seek a United States visa to allow Valero to fight in the U.S.
