Maidana is too much of an animal right now, I think they should pick up the pace slowly with Khan, I think they should for someone with decent pop in his hands but not so much to overwhelm him, he has the Boxing tools down pact but I'm not sold on him taming one of those animals who dip left and right and land bombs on their own, he should fight someone like Nate Campbell who is a good name or someone like Juan Urango but Urango just got KO'ed so Campbell is a good look. Campbell ain't going to **** out Khan the way Maidana will but he will present a tough, hard fight in which Khan can learn a lot and bring more knowledge in there for moments where he will have to dig deep against Maidana..

it's just my opinion but I just think as of late the the guys Khan has been facing were good solid world class opposition but they were not killers, guys like Edwin Valero and Marcaos Maidana are killers u feel me, Amir is gonna need to fight 2 or 3 more fight in my eyes before he's ready to face a full fledged ****er like Maidana, he has what it takes to win but he's been knocked out before by a puncher and has since fought other Boxers but not killers. for the record I like Amir Khan but I'm a fan of Boxing and in respect of that I have to call it like I see it, 2 or 3 more fights and Khan takes him but if not? Freddie is going to need a new prospect..

The people who think khan should fight maidana now are basically just people who want to see him lose. Khan is still very much in a learning phase in terms of being with roach, refining his technique, defense, and physique. If he was a poor fighter who brought nothing to the table im sure he would have to take risks sooner than he would like. But fact is he is not, and is a cash cow in the making and has the physical gifts to go all the way and I think people who are not fans of his don't like that.

Everyone needs to understand that khan is stepping up in competition big time against paulie, he has never fought at this level before, and paulie will certainly highlight any mistakes or bad habits khan has, and he can go work on them and improve without taking a ko. He will be ready for maidana soon enough and the paulie fight is a good berometer for roach to see how much khan has developed. At the end of the day guys he is fighting a fighter whether you like it or not is probably a level above maidana in every department apart from power, and paulie is a bigger name, has fought the better fighters, and is a new york fighter which will bring something to the gate. If maidana is good enough he'l still be there at the end of the year and the fight will be made, if not, then khan will probably go after bigger fish, ie, alexander, bradley.

Typical Roach, maybe its me being overly critical, i just find it ironic that Khan and his team wanted no part of Maidana before the Cayo fight but are now willing to fight him, coincidentally i had Cayo winning the fight, albeit the result was never in doubt, Roach has seen the slowness and hittablility of Maidana and thought, yep we will take him now i can see its a safer option than i first imagined.

To be honest I think roach could see the flaws you mentioned before the cayo fight, but yeah maybe it convinced him even more. It still amazes me the stock maidana gets on nsb, he hasn't beaten anyone yet. Ortiz was a good win but he was just a prospect albeit a very good one, but people seem to forget that maidana was saved by the bell in the 2nd round, and ortiz just made a lot of mistakes in that fight. Maidana lost to kotelnik in a close fight, to be honest with you he hasn't even really beat a gatekeeper yet. Im not even sure he could beat someone like lovemore ndou!

Campbell is 38 and has only 3 rounds at junior welter so i would have to say Maidana is the tougher opponent.

Kotelnik won. Nothing controversial. It was a close fight yes, but that doesnt mean that it was controversial. Malignaggi himself said that Kotelnik beat Maidana hands down.

Maidana lost a split decision to Kotelnik in February 2009 in Kotelnik's native Germany. Khan won a very wide decision over Kotelnik last July in England.
