Comments Thread For: Insider Notebook: Calzaghe's Golden Offer?; Khan; Mora

By Robert Morales - Joe Calzaghe was introduced to fans and the media prior to the recent Los Angeles news conference promoting the May 1 welterweight fight between "Sugar" Shane Mosley and Floyd Mayweather Jr. at MGM Grand in Las Vegas. It made one wonder if that meant Golden Boy Promotions - which played host that day - was considering signing Calzaghe to a promotional contract.

It's not like Calzaghe, of Wales, is in L.A. all the time, so it was a legitimate curiosity.

Calzaghe, of course, is retired. But he is just 38 and since he was still very good when he retired undefeated at the top of his game following his November 2008 victory over Roy Jones Jr., it seems well within the realm of possibility he could come back for another fight or two. The only thing controversial about Calzaghe/Hopkins was that Hopkins was alowed to clinch excessively and headbutt right infront of Joe Cortez's eyes even caught on camera seeing what was going on.

That was the worst performance of Borenard Hopkins career, he had to cheat to try and slow Calzaghes hand-speed down by excessively clinching. Other fighters have been dq'd for what Hopkins did in that fight. And if Hopkins is too old for a fast fighter like Calzaghe, then he should have never signed to fight him.

You mean the headbutt where Calzaghe came flailing in like an idiot right into Hopkins' head? Yea, that was so dirty of Hopkins.

How many rabbit punches and low blows did calzaghe throw again?

Fight was dirty and boring, don't want to see a rematch ever. If Calzaghe comes out of retirement he should fight Dawson or the top 175 pounder if he wants to fight at that weight. If not, and he believes he can make 168, theirs alot of great fighters fighting at super middle weight right now to add to his resume.

Never put Coke Slapzaghe and Amir Khan in the same sentence . It harms Amir's reputation.

Great interview BPP . My favorite part of this interview was: "I want Maidana next because I know we can out-box him," Roach said. "(Andriy) Kotelnik out-boxed him and we killed Kotelnik.". I hope Maidana stays put untill May 15th and doesn't go fight another c-level fighter that he can knock out.

I don't think the board will give B.Hop credit for beating Calzaghe in a rematch ......they'll find something to discredit him for no matter who he fights.......Haye, Dawson or Calzaghe would be cool for B.Hop to go out on!!
