Golota To Be Given Another Chance, against Valuev

The Chicago Tribune reports that Andrew Golota will be given the opportunity to gain another title shot. Don King has apparently said that he will not give up on Andrew Golota and plans to put him in a WBA elimination bout on August 13th. The bout will take place in the United Center, located in Golota's hometown of Chicago. King said that Golota's opponent is slated to be the 7 foot Nicolay Valuev of Russia. Valuev became the WBA's number one contender upon knocking out Clifford Ettiene on May 14th, 2005. [details]

I presume that what Don King means is that he will not give up on getting the hapless Pole killed or seriously injured.

Andrew Golota's fighting days are surely over and it would be safer for all concerned that he is spared further punishment.

"I'm not going to give up on Golota, and I hope the Polish people don't. We're going to revitalize Golota's career. He got caught (by Brewster). It could happen to anyone." said King

The bout will be the first televised showcase of Valuev in the United States. The Golota-Valuev encounter will land on the undercard of the WBC eliminator between Monte Barrett and Hasim Rahman, welterweight king Zab Judah is also slated for the show.

That should say "first LIVE televised showcase of Valuev. When they had the Tua/Griffis PPV (not an HBO or Showtime, some small production company), it was accompanied with the tape delayed Valuev vs. Atila Levin match. I taped it off directv.

If Golota wins this, the undeserved Valuev hype will likely discontinue. If he doesn't - well, King will get him another fight...

Golota is past his prime but i cant help but cheer for the guy. I hope he takes this very seriously and prepares, cause there is no way in hell i can see him ever getting another shot.
Yea i know Don King is prabobly just using Golota, regardless of his last outcome or wether you hate him or like him, i think he is still a big attraction.

Golota has gotten more second chances on the basis of his skin color than any fighter I can think of. It's amusing how so many posters on this board can knock Marciano and yet support Golota, the biggest white hope of them all.
