I think Roy just got carless with Danny Green and took him for granted leaving that left hand down like that against a big puncher. Roy will take Hopkins much more serious.
Here is why i see him winning. Hopkins does not have the punch rate of volume as a Calzaghe who was the last guy Roy was really motivated for but came up short because Calzaghe just overwelmed him with volumes of punches and never allowed Roy to get set and get his shots off. Glen Johnson had success with a similair strategy in 2004 and instead of fighting Roy in the middle of the ring and it being a chess match, he was all over Roy from the very beginning of the 1st round. Watch Roy's reaction once Glen jumps on him early, he's like what the hell and starts backing up against the ropes immedietely.
Calzaghe, Glen Johnson and even Danny Green all took the fight to Roy and there mindsets were we don't care what Roy throws at us, we're walking through it and unloading fire. Danny Green just walked right through Roy's counter and bombed him with a right hand and his mindset was to walk Roy down and knock him out.
Hopkins style is much more different and more tactical with less volume and more caution. His style isn't coming rushing forward early and taking risk to get countered to land a big shot. He's also slower than Joe Calzaghe so Roy can at times pace himself, get set and get his combinations off a lot more than when he fought Calzaghe who's volume was just to much for a older Roy. Hopkins isn't going to throw volumes of punches to the point where Roy is dead tired just dealing with that like when he fought Calzaghe.
Because Hopkins style is less rushing forward and applying pressure and more keeping the fight in the middle of the ring and making it a chess match i see Roy having a great shot against this particular style. Hopkins has good energy throught fights but he also paces himself which i think makes it easier for Roy compared to fighting guys who apply tons of pressure round after round and throw volumes of punches with him being older. Even though Bernard may be better than a Danny Green or Glen Johnson, Boxing is all about matchups and i think his style of pacing himself with less volume of punches will put Roy in position to get off his shots and combos, get more rest because of B-Hops slow work rate and have a chance to win the fight.
