Another world-class sporting event comes to Manchester this weekend with the arrival of WBA heavyweight champion, David Haye, who will be defending his title against American heavyweight, John Ruiz.
Ahead of the big fight at the M.E.N. Arena on Saturday night (3 April 2010), the titans will meet at the all-important weigh-in at Manchester Town Hall on Friday 2 April, 2pm.
And such is the excitement and expectation for this meeting that the weigh-in has been opened up to local boxing fans to show their support for the UK's latest sporting hero.
Sir Richard Leese, leader of Manchester City Council said: "It's fantastic to have David Haye here in Manchester to defend his title and to welcome John Ruiz to the city as well. We want to give them both a real Mancunian welcome and are inviting people down to the weigh-in. It will give local fans the opportunity to see two of the great names in the sport and be part of the pre-fight hype, which is so important in generating the atmosphere and excitement for both competitors ahead of Saturday night."
Room capacity at the weigh-in is limited, but the first 250 people to arrive at the Town Hall will be admitted. Entry into the Town Hall will be via the Albert Square entrance, where guests are asked to wait for admittance. Entry will be permitted from 1.30pm on a first come, first serve basis.
