Then idiots like Broner ask why he isn't accepted in the mainstream. Answering questions on national tv like "Same **** different toilet". He has the mentality of a 12 year old.
    Yep.

HBO tried to do a makeover job on Broner with the "sensitive" piece about his grandmother the other night.

Funny, considering Broner then goes out and beats up and robs other people's grandmothers.

HBO forgot to tell us that -- I'm sure it just slipped Max's mind.

It's amazing how that "thug life" mentality has escaped the inner-city and infected the world at-large. I would argue that it was transmitted through music, and then video, like a virus. You have kids from affluent families, with every educational and financial advantage, trying to emulate the thugs who are the heroes of their music and programs...at least until they mature and wake up. The ironic thing is that many of the "thugs" of popular culture are manufactured to give the image of being criminal, or borderline criminal. It's all a show, and kids lap it up. Broner is in line with that culture.

The media loves that angle: poor ****** kid rises from the dirt and does "good." It's an old story. They did the same thing with Tyson when he first became champ. Tyson even did a Pepsi commercial back in the day. Can you believe it? Shortly afterwards, Tyson's true colors started to show and Pepsi dropped him like a hot potato.

This is right on point. These so called thugs in the entertainment industry don't even know what that type of life is like. Most of the listeners know this, they know its all for show but they still choose to follow that life style.

ive been seeing straight through that. Lord forbid he go to other networks like showtime... They made him act like ahhh poor Broner...but he come in the ring acting like a neanderthal with turrets syndrome. Its in his blood. They will continue to make him look good. He will fight bums not good enough to get near a champions level just to make him look good.

So since you guys have "caught on" to HBO's strategy. Im more than sure that Broner vs Rees was the last Broner fight you watched. No way you continue to support his fights right?

              Right?

I don't think it's amazing, all sub cultures tend to leak out to the main stream. What I don't understand is how our basic sense or right and wrong is so twisted by young people. Who can think punching an old lady and stealing her purse is "thug"?

I wouldn't be as bothered if he was caught selling drugs or fighting in the street but this idiotic crime? I mean it's just weird to say the least.

There's nothing new about this either though. People have always been obsessed with crime and criminals in pop culture. Go back as far as you want. Just look how the mafia was romanticised for the mass market, look how guys like Sinatra used that element of 'danger' to market themselves. The tough guy thing is part and parcel of our culture.
