The Marquess of Queensberry rules
1. To be a fair stand-up boxing match in a 24-foot ring, or as near that size as practicable.
2. No wrestling or hugging allowed.
3.The rounds to be of two minutes duration, and one minute's time between rounds.
4. If either man falls through weakness or otherwise, he must get up unassisted, 10 seconds to be allowed him to do so, the other man meanwhile to return to his corner, and when the fallen man is on his legs the round is to be resumed and continued until the three minutes have expired. If one man fails to come to the scratch in the 10 seconds allowed, it shall be in the power of the referee to give his award in favour of the other man.
5. A man hanging on the ropes in a helpless state, with his toes off the ground, shall be considered down.
6. No seconds or any other person to be allowed in the ring during the rounds.
7. Should the contest be stopped by any unavoidable interference, the referee to name the time and place as soon as possible for finishing the contest; so that the match must be won and lost, unless the backers of both men agree to draw the stakes.
8. The gloves to be fair-sized boxing gloves of the best quality and new.
9. Should a glove burst, or come off, it must be replaced to the referee's satisfaction.
10. A man on one knee is considered down and if struck is entitled to the stakes.
11. That no shoes or boots with ****es or sprigs be allowed. [1]
12. The contest in all other respects to be governed by revised London Prize Ring Rules
Dirrell was off his feet so no punch should occurComment

Cole did, though almost in conjunction with the punch. I think he yelled "no, no" as he ran to get where he should have been in the first place (someplace near the action).Comment

AA thought he could get away with just a point deduction, and probably assumed there would be a rest period for Dirrell and that the fight would continue afterward. Now he's learned the hard way (and hopefully other boxers will take notice) that it's not worth the risk to abuse the rules hoping for a lucky break from the referee.Comment

I was looking forward to seeing how it went. I thought AA scored a legit KD against Dirrell, and was starting to land more regularly, so the last round would have been interesting, IMO. Shame that either man was robbed of a clean win, I'm sure Dirrell is unhappy that he had to win viw DQ.
I hope so. I've always thought of Abe as being a decent guy, and have always supported him. I even argue that it was an unintended foul, but when he comes out with this ****...
I bet on AA to win via late KO. He KOed, but it was a clear foul. DQ was justified. And he should take the DQ like a man and not try to bring this to court (rematch).
And, BN, I don't think AA was "schooled" by Dirrell. Dirrell was better, yes, but not that much better that I'd call the fight a "schooling".Comment

Dirrell showed it just the way it wshould be. So to me he schooled AA for ten rounds, but of course the fight wasn't over and AA was definetely catching up and started connecting with some heavy blows while Dirrell was tiring. Most of all I'm saddened by the fact that we did not get to see the final 1½ rounds as this had drama written all over.Comment

In my opinion Dirrell was leading big on the scorecards (8-2) and he was showing the world how to beat AA. Of course we all knew in advance that AA could be beaten with speed, determination and concentration, but it's of course easier said than done.
