Dirrell Engaged/Threw More Punches

I must say, this is what really impressed me the most. Dirrell had been criticised for running a lot in his fights and not throwing enough punches. The same cannot be said for this fight. Not only was he not afraid to stay close to Abraham throughout a majority of the fight and take some punches, but he was also winning a lot of rounds with his activity. That's something that could not be said about him before. If he improved his clumsy footwork a bit and figured out how to do better against pressure fighters without cannonballing to the canvas/holding so much, then he will be elite one day. I see a bright future for this kid if he puts his mind to it.

And his counter punching is definitely something to look out for.

Very possible, but at the same time he could have ended up like Jean Pascal. Froch loves to exchange, and he doesn't shell up like Abraham so it would be interesting to see how the fight would have gone if Dirrell had fought like this.

AA doesnt throw punches he stand and blocks which was perfect for Dirrell to show some offense. I will admit I was suprised after Dirrell got confident that he did trade in the pocket a bit but after the horrible Froch showing Im not suprised. Towards the end he did start to revert back as AA started coming on though.

yeah i was impressed with dirrell in the early rounds as well but i though aa was coming on strong before the dq occured its a shame the fight ended like that. hopefully we can get a rematch of this fight

First half of the fight amazing. Second half of the fight not so much. I give Dirrell a lot of credit for dominating AA the way he did, but I don't like to see boxers run once they have established a lead. Furthermore, Dirrell performed better when he was engaging. When Dirrell backed off instead of fighting in the pocket, Abraham was landing some big shots, and even had Dirrell in trouble in the 10th round. In my opinion, Dirrell should engage for the whole fight and not just 6 rounds. It suits him better.

His counter punching isn't still there, he tried it allot though tonight but failed most of it. He's so fast I'm sure it's just about timing. I don't like how he keeps his chin up in the air when slipping punches... He did make Abraham miss allot but I'm sure there is a better defense than that! He should try to use his body more and stay in the pocket. Against someone like Abraham who needs some room to punch, staying in the pocket would be awesome. I like the way he punched tonight, a little more explosion power wouldn't hurt him though.

he threw more and was more impressive tonight because he was facing an opponent who doesn't throw at a high volume. if AA had a high workrate, dirrell would have been on his bike again. but regardless, props to dirrell for his performance. it was an entertaining version of pacquiao-clottey.
