I'll use the upcoming fight between Kostya Tszyu and Ricky Hatton as an example.
Is there anything that anyone actually disslikes about either of these two fighters?... Coz' I think you'll be hard pushed to find someone that will say a bad word about either of them.
They're both honest and great to their fans, they're respectfull to their opponents, and openly admire other fighter's career acheivements. They're both an excellent role model to younger people joining the sport.
Then you get the trash talkers... Like James Toney - enough said! Tarver was pretty bad for a while, and Floyd Mayweather isn't winning himself any fans nowadays. They're rude and say very offending stuff to opponents.
They have no respect for their fellow fighters achomplishments, and call other fighters (World Champions - "BUMS").
Now I know that this is a business, and some people will play the bad guy if it's gonna sell them more tickets but I have to ask:
Which approach is better? I ask Because the Tszyu's/Hattons/Gatti's sell out 20,000+ everytime they fight, where as some of the trash talkers, (Like Floyd Mayweather) was only able to sell 2,000-3,000 seats in his last outing?
Mind you, Mike Tyson has done very well in the past by playing the bad guy.
So which approach is better? Trash talking or respectable boxer?
