    The rise of Margarito?

I've been on the these forums since oct 2008 because theres no outlet for boxing fans here in Auckland besides a page in a soft **** paper called 'the truth' here, and they cover **** boxing... so i would've just heard about Cotto losing to Tony.

I've just read a post about Tony being a top WW for a decade...2 questions,

    1. How did he become relevant?

    2. who did he beat before Cotto?

If we use the Ring Mag rankings as our standard, Margarito broke into the top 10 at WW in 2001.

I think bottom half of the 5.

From 2001 he climbed up a few spots every year, reaching 1 status somewhere around 04 or 05. Im going off memory so I could be a year or 2 off, lol.

But basically after at least 05 he's been a top 5 WW.

He made 1 a few times and was champion on 3 occasions for the WBO and WBA.

I don't remember him having an IBF or WBC strap though.

Then after he beat Cotto he was in the Rings top 10 p4p list at 5 or 6.

Who'd he beat to get Cotto?

Clottey, Cintron 2x are the more important fights.

Golden Johnson was a tuneup after the Williams mess.

People may talk **** because they don't understand the Margarito situation, but you can't take away the fact that the guy's been a top fighter at WW for almost 10 years.

      He deserves mad props.

He deserves jailtime and/or a lifetime ban from boxing...he's a cheating coward. You can't take away the fact that he got caught trying to cheat, which is just as bad as cheating. it's possible he ruined Cotto's career with that savage beating he gave him with possibly loaded gloves.

And who knows how long he has been doing this? It throws his whole career in question.
