Dude, you're obsessed with ppv numbers and bank accounts.

When I start getting hyped up for a fight, I might go back and watch a bunch of each fighter's previous matches, and checkout their most notable fights.

What do you do? Do you have a bunch of spreadsheets setup that you look over, to see projected earnings and ppv buys?

        Who Cares?

          re: Pain Killer

[QUOTE=PensionKiller;7893047]Mayweather 5 Pay Per View Fights Before Marquez
4.4 Million Buys and $212 Million

June 2005 Mayweather vs. Arturo Gatti 365k= $16.5 million
          Apr. 2006 Mayweather vs. Zab Judah 375k = $ $16.8 million
Sep 2006 Mayweather vs. Carlos Baldomir 325k = $16.3 Million
May 2007 Mayweather vs. De la Hoya 2.44M=$136.6 Million
Dec 2007 Mayweather vs. Ricky Hatton 920k=$50 Million

I'm looking at these numbers and they are looking pretty accurate but the amount of revenue generated was $236.2m, which Mr. Mayweather did not take home all of that revenue. If anyone here really knows about the business side of boxing and Mr. Mayweathers situation, with the Gatti and Judah fights, he was still under Bob Arum. Within those 2 PPV's not only was Mr. Mayweather able to get a guaranteed purse of $3 and $5m for those two fights, but he also was able to get a percentage from the actual PPV numbers.(Only other boxers to do that previous to that time was De La Hoya, Mike Tyson vs Lennox Lewis both fighters & Roy Jones). That's why Mr. Mayweather had problems with Arum in the first place. Arum didn't want to pay what was agreed upon because he expected the PPV numbers to be at least around 500,000 apiece. Again if people in here really understand the business side and the history of PPV, boxers in smaller weight classes rarely topped 500,000 buys. That's why De La Hoya was such a huge success because he changed the game as far as PPV buys in the lower weight classes.

During the time of the Gatti, Judah and Baldomir fights, the PPV numbers were good for any boxer just starting out on PPV, without another major PPV fighter to dance with. It's proven that without a De La Hoya, or a Mike Tyson, PPV numbers would be around 3-400k buys. Mr. Mayweather knew this, Mr. Arum knew this, and HBO knew this, and this is why Mr. Arum tried to keep Mr. Mayweather from chasing the bigger paying fights because he knew that once Mr. Mayweather went to the next level, he would leave based on a few issues that go way back to when Mr. Mayweather won his first title from Genaro Hernandez.

After the Judah fight and Mr. Arum did not pay Mr. Mayweather the rest of his money, HBO whom already had a contract with Top Rank & Mr. Mayweather individually, wanted to match up Mr. Mayweather with Shane Mosely, and to build up the anticipation for the dream fight between Mayweather-De La Hoya. Since Top Rank didn't want to do business with GBP based on the falling out that De La Hoya and Mr. Arum had during De La Hoya's stint with Top Rank, Arum tried to do like he does to this day, and that is do his own in-house match making. He wanted to match Mayweather-Margarito. At that time since Mr. Mayweather had become the best P4P fighter in the world, seeking a much bigger payday than $5-$8m, and to become a PPV household name, it wasn't beneficial to fight Margarito, who was not a PPV fighter at all, wasn't recognized as a Lineal Champ, or a top P4P fighter. So Mr. Mayweather went to Mr. Arum, and spoke to him about a fight with De La Hoya, and the fact that he demanded a $20m guaranteed purse, and Mr. Arum told him that he would never get that as a fighter, so he need to take a fight with Margarito. HBO approached Mr. Mayweather about a possible showdown with Mosley in which he didn't mind signing a contract for but the only way that he could do that fight was to get from under Top Rank. Instead of Mr. Mayweather coming out of his pocket, HBO put up $750k to get Mr. Mayweather out of his contract.

After that was taken care of, now Mr. Mayweather was ready for Mr. Mosley, but Mr. Mosley decided not to agree to terms, and Mr. Mayweather fought Baldomir instead, in which it was for the Lineal Championship, and he went on to not only get the $8m dollar purse that was offered from Top Rank to fight Margarito, but he went on to make around $12m total for that fight.

That will bring us to De La Hoya-Mayweather. Mr. Mayweather did in fact get his $20m guaranteed purse(which Arum said that he would never get) but he is the first fighter to fight De La Hoya, and get a percentage from PPV buys. Before then, De La Hoya would only get PPV percentages whomever he faced. So when it was all said and done, Mr. Mayweather was able to take home a little over $35m from that fight. Then came Hatton-Mayweather in which Mr. Mayweather again was able to get a $20m guaranteed purse, a percentage from the event for being a promoter, and a percentage from PPV. He was able to take in roughly $28m for that fight.

This is just some history for everyone on here that may want to look at $236m, and believe that Mr. Mayweather generated that much in his bank account from those 5 PPV's but in reality he has generated close to $80m, and when you are fortunate enough to be in a different tax bracket, if you are really in debt with the IRS, they will come take things from you.

Rich and wealthy people tend to allow the IRS to say they owe something then dispute the amount because honestly, if someone came to you and told you that you owe $100 dollars and you believe it's around $30 dollars, would you just pay them the $100 or dispute the amount? That's been happening since the old days of finances. So what this boils down to is, at this time, whether you want to compare numbers between fighters, give your personal opinions about certain fighters, or just flat out dislike a fighter because of your own personal vendettas. People lie, numbers don't and boxing is not just a sport but it is a business, and just because the IRS sends you a notice, that doesn't mean you are broke. The smart people with money, dispute then pay a settled amount, or they just file bankruptcy so they can keep their assets. I know this because I am a financial advisor for ........( I won't tell you that)...Happy debating everyone and have a great evening!
