Comments Thread For: Cotto vs. Foreman: A Tug of War For Emanuel Steward

Last month, Yuri Foreman's manager, Murray Wilson, was under the impression he had reached a deal with trainer Emanuel Steward. Foreman's team was planning to use Steward in training camp to prepare for the upcoming fight with Miguel Cotto on June 5 in New York's Yankee Stadium. Steward was going to join Foreman's camp for two or three weeks in the role of a consultant. The training goal was to use Steward's knowledge to increase Foreman's offensive abilities. Power move by Cotto. It's funny how he didn't want him until all of a sudden his opponent was gonna bring him in.

I thought Orlando Cuellar was gonna train Cotto. He'd be a great fit for Miguel.

i feel emanuel steward is the best trainer out (when hes training) so when I heard Yuri may be getting him i got a little nervous. but if Cotto has him in his corner, then i have supreme confidence going into this fight

If Steward gets on the team, Cotto's chances improve. The difference between a good gameplan and a bad one can be the difference between winning and losing.

Steward might not be the best gameplanner, but his confidence building will be an even bigger asset for Cotto. Cotto's confidence hasn't been the same as it was since before Margarito.

Remember all the Steward fighters that have been able to do great things after KO losses (Hearns, Lewis, Klitschko).

Foreman will be more of a challenge than people expect. Nobody deals well with lateral movement and quick counter punching. If Foreman can take Cotto's punches easy, Steward or not, it will not look good for Cotto.

Steward will remind Cotto of his strengths and show him how to get the most out of that already great jab. Manny Steward is a great fit for a power fighter with a great jab. Great fit for Cotto. We may see a resurrection.

Like, who cares? I know I don't. It looks like we are gonna keep getting ****** ass updates about this ****. Just like when Ch@mp and Animalistic posted a link everytime Cotto wiped his ass. This actual site has to add to the headache.

A major fighter changing to a major trainer is news...Especially when that trainer had a tentative deal with the opponent...

                    Exactly.

Good move by Cotto IMO. He needed a top trainer once he split with his uncle. It's hard to believe he went through two very tough fights, one of them being the most important in his career, by himself.
