I was just rewatching Abraham-Taylor.
Gosh, that's a hard finish for me. To see Jermain, who I once had so much hope for after the Hopkins wins, pissed away like that- a brutal KO after an equally harsh KO to Froch - not to mention what Kelly did to him- to see his career most assuredly over as he hit the canvas; any Taylor fan, or anyone who even liked him at all, they know what they saw Abraham do.
You can't attribute that finish all to Abraham, of course, Jermain was on the severe down-turn of a career in the dumps, but he showed his usual boxing skill. The early rounds, as he often did, Jermain didn't always look bad. I mean, he was still an Olympian boxer, ya know? He was a skilled practitioner of the pugilistic science, even if he'd lost several steps from the wear-and-tear of his KO's. I don't know, other than speed, that I personally view Direll as being that good. I mean, not yet- at least. I think he's solid, good boxer with nice speed, but I'm not sold he's that special.
Arthur, while not the best boxer- often throwing looping shots and such - truly does make up for some skill with brute strength. Watch how he bullies Taylor in the last few rounds of their fight. His shots aren't as crisp, but he throws in bunches, makes you back up, throws three to land one between the guard- and he's got enough pop that it can work.
It has worked for him.
I haven't seen Direll in with a guy who is going to push him around like Arthur will. He might start out decent, but I think Abraham is determined and strong enough to pressure Andre into submission.
Abraham KO 9.
