I don't think so, and I don't think Vitali looked that great against him either. He respected him way too much. Its like the whole purpose of the his left hook was to cause as little damage as possible. Its sad that he was able to own Lewis with basically only a jab and a straight right.

The fight with Johnson seemed like a big improvement.

I thought that he threw the left hook only once or twice... but it was exactly what you said.

      • Wasn't Wlad still using his "Euro" style when he was annihilated by Sanders ?

His Euro style consisted of leaving his unmoving head straight up in the air....& made him a ridiculously easy target for Sanders' left hand.
That's why Steward was brought in.

            • while, i think wlad would beat brewster in a rematch, i'd favor sanders over him if they fought again.... wlad would have to put his offensive arsenal on hold for 3 or 4 rounds til sanders gets tired.... and during that time he'd have to avoid that wicked left hand... i think manny could come up with a game plan to do it, but wlad needs alot more time to recover from the these last 2 losses....

                • Williamson: I'll outthink Dr. Klitschko!

                  September 30, 2004

                  By Andre Courtemanche

“I remember Muhammad Ali saying in one of his interviews that for his fight against George Foreman, he had to suffer to win. I was trying to adopt some of that and push myself where I’ve never been before. I had to use guys who could push me to that level. Your heart is burning and you want to give up and you say ‘hey, I have two more rounds to go.’ You suffer and do it over and over until it become muscle memory. Keeping your hands, up, moving this way, slipping this punch, until it becomes natural. Then you’re ready.” --DaVarryl Williamson

Not thinking much of an opponent is what DaVarryl “Touch of Sleep” Williamson says caused him to end up flat on his back last year against Baby Joe Mesi. On Saturday night, Williamson, 20-2 (17), will have a chance to erase the memory of that loss when he takes on former WBO champ Wladimir Klitschko at Caesars Palace Casino in Las Vegas.

And in a fight being billed as “the most educated heavyweight fight in history,” Williamson, who holds a Masters Degree in Administrative Services and is also a Bachelor of Science, claims he will not only beat Dr. Klitschko, but he will do it by outsmarting him.

“Believe it or not, although he has a doctorate degree, I’m going to outthink him,” said Williamson. “I’m not going to go right after him. You have to be tactical to beat this guy. You want to make him fight when he doesn’t want to fight. I can’t give all my strategy away, but I’ll be trying to trick this guy. I have to give him the optical illusion; I’m there then I’m not.”

Williamson says he’s just glad to be getting this opportunity after the horrendous setback to Mesi. Sometimes in boxing, suffering a loss is good career move because suddenly everyone is willing to fight you. And Williamson has made the most of it so far, scoring two consecutive wins, one an NABF title-winning effort against Eliecer Castillo. “I feel great man. I’m really, really excited about being back in Vegas and about getting a second chance to make a first impression to the worldwide fans of boxing.”

A win puts Williamson among the serious contenders for a title shot; a fact he is well aware of. “When they told me I had the fight, I felt like I had hit the lottery because after me losing to Mesi in September of last year, what I kept asking myself was how can I get back in to the thick of things? One was by beating Eliecer Castillo. That brought me back to life and this fight here will not only bring me back to life, but a victory will put me right where I need to be. When I win this fight, I’ll be right back in the thick of things. Heavyweight boxing is a beautiful thing. One minute you’re written off and the next, you’re right back in it.”

Regardless of what Klitschko brings to the table, Williamson says it’s his time to prove himself worthy and put away the past for good. “I’m ready for this. I’m more than ready. I just want to make sure I go out and execute. No hiccups. You’re going to get hit, but you want to hit him a lot more than he hits you. I haven’t boxed against him, so I’m worried and concerned with every move he makes and that’s good. With Baby Joe, I didn’t have that concern. I practically raised him in the amateurs. Therefore, I was looking beyond him. I didn’t give him enough focus or concentration and it cost me dearly. This time, there will be none of that. I’m coming out with my mind sharp and my punches sharper and I’m going to win. Tell everyone to watch what I do Saturday night.”
