I just saw they are playing that at movies theatres too, how many tickets do you see that selling.
How many PPV do estimate Roy Jones/Hopkins to sell next week?

I'm going to say 225-250k.
Let's look at each guys last PPV numbers:
-Hopkins-Pavlik: 190K
-Jones-Calzaghe: 225K (with 4-part 24/7 series)
Granted the combination of Jones-Hopkins together equals two bigger names, I think people, even the casual fan, realize that Jones is no longer Jones and Hopkins is a 45 year old man who hasn't had too many entertaining fights recently. That stuff is supposed to be an afterthought as the selling point for this fight is that they're rivals and legends in the sport. Hopkins has compared it to if they had a Magic vs Jordan 1-on-1 game. Yea, everyone knows they are way past their prime but they'd still want to watch anyway based on who they are. Personally, I just don't the promotion has really been there as HBO didn't really want to touch it not to mention it will be competing with the Sweet 16 which of course is free and a lot more popular among the mainstream, which is where a big chunk of PPV sales are supposed to come from.Last edited by βetamax; 03-24-2010, 10:40 PM.Comment

With no HBO help and no 24/7..........most likely loses it's ass.
I would estimate about 350-500k buys at best. With HBO support it could have done 800k-950k which is why I have no idea why they passed on it. Makes no sense not to economically if nothing else.Comment

well
they share from the same crowd essentially so those who forked over 60 dollars for Manny's fight may not want to add to their cable or satellite bill another 60 for this. That will drive the numbers down considerably
also
in a month from that date is another, highly anticipated, PPV and now you have
Manny vs Clottey
Hopkins vs Jones
Mosley vs Mayweather
all in 2 months time
180 dollars spent if you want all three in HD
take out the weak link
and you have a dismal showing for Hopkins vs Jones
I say around 175kComment
