HECTOR macho CAMACHO! was he really that good?

I have never seen any of his younger fights but I heard he beat ray leonard when later in leonards career and he had many fights with an older duran. But I remember one of my friends uncles telling me that prince naseem reminded him of camacho and he said camacho came in at a time when leonard retired or something.

Drop your thoughts on him and if any one has some of his fights can you hook them up. thanks

Héctor Camacho is one of the greatest PR boxers ever. He had great skills: good ring movement, great footwork, awesome handspeed, and a solid chin(never Koed and has only been down 2 or 3 times in a career of over 80 fights). He is a 5 time world champion and his level of opposition is superb. Ray Mancini, Edwin Rosario, José Luis Ramírez, Greg Haugen, Vinny Pazienza, Julio César Chávez, an old Roberto Durán, an old Ray Leonard, Oscar De La Hoya, and Félix Trinidad are some of his opponents. He is 8-4 against this stellar bunch.

His fight with Rosario is what changed him into a safety first fighter. Rosario beat him up pretty good and many people thought Rosario should of won that fight. Camacho wasn't the same after that fight plus I think he had finacial problems.

He didn't have the firepower to keep the power punchers off of him (Tito, Oscar, Chavez), his skills were great, his right jab was one of the best in boxing history, but he had no pop in the left hand so the elite fighters walked right thru his jab and worked the body on 'em.....plus I heard he was quite the party animal in the late 80's which didn't help

True. Camacho also had problems with the powder. I think Rosario was dating Camacho's sister at the time(been a long time since I've seen it) but there was alot of implying that one or the other of em was a sissy or somethin like that. I think Rosario brought some panties or somethin to a press conference. I'm sure it was calculated to make Camacho trade with him which would have been to Rosario's benefit. He could punch a ton!

Anyway Camacho eked out the decision retreating the whole time, which was right for him. He boxed his ass off at the beginning then ran, similar to Oscar against Trinidad. Got a razor close decision.

I've always been a fan of Camacho's. He had some of the fastest hands and feet EVER! He had a ton of boxing ability too! Guys hate on him for his personality wheich is understandable. I've known guys who knew him in NY. He was selfish, egotistical and funloving. If you didn't either impress him or intimidate him you weren't worthy of respect and might be disrespected or ridiculed ...

I'm sure I wouldn't like him as a person either but I loved his boxing ability. He did get defensive after that fight but he has never been KO'd I don't think and went the distance with Chavez, Trinidad, DLH? and Duran, even when he was outsized, overpowered and aging. Look at his record; it's something to be proud of imo. And don't forget when he beat the **** outta Leonard no one thought he'd win.

                He's a weasel ... but a tough damn weasel!
