I was just wondering what would happen if the champion of a division was with HBO and the mandatory challenger was with Showtime? The champion would lose his title if he doesn't fight the challenger within a given time, so how does this fight get made? OK the champion could vacate the title and fight someone else but for the sake of argument lets say he wants to keep it.
What would happen if... (Network disputes)

Originally posted by realtimWhat you have highlighted is whats wrong with boxing 2day. This fighter fights with HBO so that means he cant fight a champion on Showtime because the promoter of HBO and showtime aernt speaking. These leeches are robbing us of the big fights.
If the card is promoted on ppv by a promoter who has their own presentation, Im sure their would be a small fee on possibly a promo for that show...For example
Don King's ppv cards mostly presented on KingVision without the support of HBO, he could easily promote 2 fighters on different networks same goes for kushners heavyweight heroe's
Bad part is all of the champions minus the heavyweights are snatched up by the networks....
Im sure Showtime would step aside and let their fighter be showcased on the show for a small fee or promotional advertisement but not HBO...
Prime Example of this is Cory Spinks, he doesnt have a contract with HBO or Showtime and has been showcased on both networks as well as KingVision ppvs.
This is why, I dont think their should be exclusive television deals...Let the promoters promote the fighters and the networks pick and choose...Exclusive deals is what ruins these things...
Plus I think it would be more profitable...Last edited by spinksjinx; 12-02-2004, 08:52 AM.Comment

Didn't HBO sign Michael Grant? That sure turned out great...same thing with Vernon Forrest.
When I try to explain the inner working on boxing to my non-fan friends they're completely baffled and often appalled. It's ridiculous.
The thing is you really need one governing organization, like in the major team sports. There's a reason why there's always just one league, and the rival ones are either cast aside or absorbed.Comment
