Matter fact, most fights I've heard of when the boxer dies, he didn't even get KO'd he just passes out after the fight etc.
Is This The Most Brutal KO Ever?

That was Ray Mercer...proving why they call him "Merciless," I guess. That was bad. He could've killed that opponent. But, looking at it closely, it looks like he might've backed up expecting the referee to step in and stop the fight. I don't think he necessarily backed up to get a running start. It's possible that when the ref didn't step in, Mercer simply ran back to finish the job.Comment

yeah..can't really blame the boxer the guy didn't really look knocked out yet, looked to me like he was still trying to climb in the ring, it's the refs job to run in there immediately and let the guy climb back in etc...ref's fault if you ask me. that's the type of punch that can kill somenoe or give them brain damage. That was Ray Mercer...proving why they call him "Merciless," I guess. You see I don't like seeing **** like that. The referee was pulling him off the guy and he was still swinging he's a prick.damn I just realized Mercer is the same guy that gave another top 3 of the most brutal KO ever...against Tommy Morrison...wow Ray truly is THE MERCILESS ONE.......

This is why I had respect for Cotto in his fight with Gomez. He could have really laid a dreadful beating on him but he didn't.Comment

There are a lot of "top ten" boxing knockout videos on Youtube. There was one I saw some time ago that showed some stomach-turning beatings. That Ray Mercer KO may have even been on it. I believe it was meant as an anti-boxing video. Sorry, I couldn't find it.
But there are plenty of historical KOs that are as bad, or even worse, than the Mercer clip. Marciano's knock out of "Jersey" Joe Walcott left Joe hanging off the ropes like a wet rag. There's an Arturo Gatti clip someone uses as their sig on this site. I don't know who the opponent is, but Gatti lands a three punch combination that made the other fighter look like a bobble-head doll. It all happened so quickly that the ref didn't even have time to react. The painful part of it is that Gatti's opponent was out from the first punch, his body just hadn't dropped yet. The next two shots land cleanly, with the poor guy's eyes rolled into the back of his head.Comment
