"If Devon Alexander wants that loss so badly, I'll whoop him!"
GL: What can you tell us about moving from Showtime to HBO where you will make your debut on June 26?
TB:"I'm glad I've finally got the opportunity to fight on HBO. Showtime has been very loyal and faithful to me in broadcasting my skills, but everybody knows HBO is where stars are pretty much made. Showtime was great, but HBO has more viewers. Everybody has HBO. I'm excited about making my debut there and moving up to 147. It's a different challenge and a different motivation for me. I want to test the waters at 147, kind of like Hatton did when he went up against Collazo. I want to see if the weight is a big factor or not. I just want to have another option and show HBO that I'm ready to face a welterweight if they wanted the challenge. It's a new motivation now."
GL: Who will you be fighting and what do you know about him?
Timothy Bradley: "I'm fighting Carlos Abregu. All I know he's a good puncher. He's from Argentina and he's never lost, so he's definitely a threat and it's going to be a huge challenge for me. I'm coming up to his domain, he's the number one contender for the IBF and I want to dethrone him."
GL: Kevin Cunningham and Devon Alexander are ready to fight you right now. They're not too thrilled about you coming on HBO to fight a vitrual unknown. They feel this is the second time you could have made it happen but have instead chose the path of least resistance. How do you feel about that?
TB: "I don't feel nothing about that. Kevin Cunningham need to stop filling that boy's head up with all this overconfidence. When the fight goes down, and it will go down, but it's going to go down on my time. I want to fight him right now, but my promoter and manager are trying to get a bigger fight than Devon. The fight will happen. It's just a matter of time. I'm going to take this fight and then Devon might be next. For a fight like that with Devon, it depends on the numbers and if it don't make dollars it don't make sense to me."
GL: If all goes according to plan against Abregu and you come back down to 140, is there a bigger fight to be made?
TB: "It's a huge fight to be made. Khan might be bigger, and he might pay more money than Devon. Malignaggi if he beats Khan might be bigger. I'm ready to fight anybody, but it all comes to the numbers. Everybody has to be happy across the board. The fight with Devon will happen no doubt and I will be victorious in that fight. I have no doubt that I am the better man, and if he wants that loss so badly, I'll have to give it to him. Tell his trainer to stop woofing, but in his heart, Devon knows he don't want that whooping."
GL: That's some serious trash talk by your standards.
TB: "He's coming off the fight with Urango saying he's the best puncher in the division, but the dude couldn't slap a fly down and he's so slow. How can he be the best when I'm at the #1 spot? Like I said, he's going to get what he's asking for. At first I thought he would go twelve, but then the way he was getting caught by the very slow Juan Urango, I don't know anymore."
I almost thought I was reading a Floyd interview.
