    Was Larry Holmes considered undisputed?

I'm asking because recently I was reading through the list of undisputed champions in wikipedia and was surprised to not see Holmes in the HWs (yeah yeah I know it's just wikipedia), can someone clarify?

No, I wasn't following boxing at the time because I wasn't even born. I always thought he was, but reading that caught me by surprise. Could you answer the question?

Holmes was not undisputed, he only held IBF and WBC.

If had beaten Tyson in '88 he would have became undisputed.

Holmes won the vacant WBC title against Ken Norton. The title was last held by Leon Spinks after he beat Ali. Spinks opted to rematch Ali instead of facing Norton who was the long-time mandatory so WBC stripped Spinks.

As you know Ali won the rematch (and WBA belt) against Spinks and then retired. The WBA belt then kept changing hands all through the eighties untill Tyson unified the titles.

So Holmes held the WBC title for most of his reign and the IBF strap in the end but that's another story.

                Thanks for clarifying

Damn I always thought Larry Holmes was undisputed at one point.

Maybe you're confusing undisputed with linear. He gained universal recognition as linear champion after beating Ali in 1980.

No, I know the difference, I just thought Holmes held all the titles at one point, but obviously I was wrong.
