Was Vitali on steriods in his retirement?

Correct me if i am wrong here, but didnt Vitali cancell the Rahman fight 4 times? Because of injury after injury. Probably from his kickboxing days?

I feel he used some sort of steroid, hormone treatment or something illegal to aid his serious injuries. Didnt he have some sort of back/spinal problem?
