In general -- of course it does, that's why we have weight classes. But after a certain point it really doesn't. Dempsey brutally KOed Jess Willard who outweighed him by 60 pounds.
You can build up your abs to take a punch but you can't strengthen your liver. You can build up your neck but a "small" heavyweight is still strong enough to KO a big heavyweight.
Again, I'm not saying there isn't a reason for weight classes only that a 260 pound Klitschko, or Jess Willard, or Primo Carnera, or Lennox Lewis, can't automatically take a punch from Liston, Tyson, Foreman simply because he outweighs them by 40 pounds.
