    WBC To Strip Castillejo

WBC executive director Mauricio Sulaiman is confirming that jr. middleweight champion Javier Castillejo, will be shorn of his title in the coming days.

It follows the announcement of Main Events that Castillejo will be fighting Fernando Vargas, himself a twice world champion in this weight division. The two will clash on August 20th at the AllState Arena in Chicago.

The WBC has insisted that Castillejo must fight Ricardo Mayorga of Nicaragua, or forfeit his title.

Mauricio Sulaiman said: “It is very said to see something like this happen. Javier Castillejo knows he has to comply with the rules and regulation, yet he’s fighting another boxer who’s not the number one challenger. “

“We feel very let down. We’ve supported Javier Castillejo and we truly regret that he does not respect the rules-the same ones which gave him the championship.”

Main Events CEO Kathy Duva is arguing that Mayorga did not win a mandatory eliminator, he was KO’d in his last fight against Felix Trinidad, he’s lost two of his last three fights and he had weight problems at the 154 limit. So she’s arguing that Castillejo should be allowed an optional defense- and that bout should be against Fernando Vargas. [details]

LMAO!Vargas looking for the easiest belt to get yet again. What a joke,i'm glad they're stripping the paper champion Castillejo,if he doesn't fight his mandatory in Mayorga.I'd rather see Mayorga beat Castillejo, and talk trash to Vargas afterwards, which would lead to a possible Mayorga-Vargas showdown, than when Vargas beats Castillejo,he would probably fight nobodies and defend the title against no named mandatories for the next 2-3 years.

    Good job WBC!

All this makes it look less likely that Vargas will be fighting Castillejo as Vargas wants a title. However hopefully this means that Vargas will take the Castillejo fight and move on to fight Mayorga in November or December for the WBC title, which is a fight i think a lot of us would be looking forward to.
