How long do you think PRIME lasts??

This question is for those who claim and assume they now when a fighter is in his prime.

The perfect example is Miguel Cotto.

In a lil bit over 2 years he faces 7 guys. Out of those 7 guys, 5 are considered world class fighters , who were at the moment former , and some are at this point , champions.

It begins with an impressive win over Zab Judah. Continues with an even more impressive win over future HOF Shane Mosley where he completely outboxes him. A tune up fight with Alfonso Gomez. In 13 months

Then his first loss come to the hands (some say bricks) of Margarito. Which even if he didnt have plaster , it was already a hard fight to begin with. Then he comes back to take a vacant title against Jennings(too easy). Clottey , some say the judges robbed him I'd like to believe Cotto robbed him. And then Paquiao.

Ok so lets break it down.

In 13 months , he fought Zab , Mosley , and that bum Gomez.
Was he is his "Primer". I hope so. Before that nobody can make a claim he was or he wasnt. So withing those 10 months , we can agree , it was the first sign of him , Being at an elite level.

His first loss arrives. And from there on , including Margarito. he fights Jennings , Which was too easy , Clottey which makes every fighter struggle.
And the Manny Pacquiao( I dont need any comments for this one)

So between Zab and Marg. it was 13 months. And from Marg to Pacquiao , approx. 16 months. And after Marg the claims that he was past his prime begins.

So I'm guessing for those bright minds , The answer is 13 months. So after 13 months , the guy grabs his first loss. Where the guy received and handed his share of punishment , and the pressure combined with the punishment seems to be too much so he quits.

Is that it , is he past his prime. Was he at his prime for only 3 fights. Doesnt Pacquiao have 5 losses. Hanst he improved since then. Doesnt Hopkins have 5 losses. How about Mosley , doesnt he have 5 losses. Pacquiao didnt lose to the p4p king. Neither did Hopkins. How bout Mosley??

So when u reach ur prime , u are automatically have to beat the best?? Cuz of course u are in ur prime. There is no chance that the guy , after reaching the top , will lose to a top fighter.

Its just too ****ing hilarious reading some of the post of people claiming that a fighter is past his prime , or that he is shot. I mean , after seeing Cotto take one clear round , and Maybe a couple of others that were competitive , and seeing Clottey look like he did, There is no question in my mind , Cotto has more than enough to give Mayweather hell. Berto a beating , Mosley a competitive rematch.

So what is ur definition of prime , how long does it last.

It depends on the fighter, Some get lazy, Some let fame get to their head, Some party too much. It all depends in every fighter.

Exactly. Obviously fighters who take better care of themselves will have a longer career.

Ballooning out in weight shortens your prime that is for sure.

It all depends...I still think Cotto is still in a prime condition but I think his punch resistance is starting to fade a little bit. That punch that Pacquaio landed in the 4th was hellacious, but we've seen Cotto take brutal hits but never take so long to recover. Cotto didn't really recover from that punch until like the 9th round and by then it was over.

So physically that dude is still prime, body is intact and he still has power. Pacquaio was visibly hurt many times in what was clearly his toughest fight since JMM, but he can't take punches like he use too. The Clottey fight not withstanding, the Pac fight probably killed his chin for good.

He can still be compete, but for his own good I really pray that after he grabs that 154 strap, he goes back down to 147 because the punchers in 154 are brutal and it may be too much, especially for a guy figuratively too small at that weight.

I think Pacquiao might not be in his prime according to this.

His style, especially in the early part of his career, is pretty much f@ck defense, as long as I get mine off.

                    Wars
With just from the 3 great mexican fighters:
2 wars with the fights with Marquez
2 wars with the 3 fights with Morales
1 war from the 2 fights with Barrera

And I'll add 1 more war for the combination of the Cotto fight and the fouling he got from Agapito Sanchez

He also did suffer 2 KO's, one of them a real one and the other a body punch knockout but that one was probably a sign he didn't belong in the flyweight division anymore and needed to have weight in him to take punch resistence. Thats why he jumped 2 divisions to go straight to Super bantam weight.

May be Floyd needs to hear this to psyche him self up and think Pacquiao is washed up. Hehe
