Chris John/Gamboa is another classic example, where the longtime WBA champion (John) is elevated to Super Champion and Gamboa beats a 37-year-old can of corn for the WBA title. In the end, John and Gamboa will probably never meet in the ring so we have two WBA championsComment

I kinda agree here, the interim **** is a bit confusing at times but at least its only the WBC who do it. It make a certain logical sense but in practice it means guys like this dude become world champion without a title fight.Comment

Tunney, you're right, Vitali legitimately beat Gutierrez. I think he's talking about the fact that there was an existing champion, Soto, that he never had to fight to get the title.
