This will forever be a controversial fight. It should also be remembered that the whole fight was great.

      A great stylematchup.
      2 undefeated fighters
      Unification fight.

For me Richard Steele always did the right thing. I think if anyone is to blame for anything it's Lou Duva who screamed like a madman distracting the completely spent Taylor enough for him to not respond to Steele.

Trouble with that show is that it brings forward the myth of Taylor being finshed after Chavez I. That's not the case. The fight took something out of him obviously, but he still managed to win over highly touted Aaron Davis, Glemwood Brown and others.

Taylor deserved to win that fight. My thoughts on that will never change.

However at first when I saw the fight it was after the Legendary Nights episode and it skewed my thoughts ont he fight a bit. I was not as educated as a boxing fan back then so I believe I watched the fight with some built up bias when I finally watched it.

I've seen it a couple of times since then and the most recent time I had Chavez winning a 3-4 rounds, but he did A LOT of damage in every round, even the ones he lost. It was clear who's punches were dmaging who more. In fact it was obvious. Chavez beat the hell out of Taylor that night. He may not have won the fight but he beat the hell out of him...

It was foolish of Taylor to go toe to toe those last couple of rounds and foolish of his corner to tell him so, but it was a decision they made and Chavez made them pay for it. No matter what you think of the outcome (Steele ****ed up) Chavez deserves some more credit than peopel usually give him.

A sad ending to the fight. Thrilling action and a clinic by Taylor. If he had to be ruined in that fight, it's too bad he didn't get to enjoy the win. Some of the greatest handspeed I've ever seen.

3 seconds left, a Philly fighte,r who im almost certain will try to exchange with his legs almost gone and with his mind still dazed, against a fighter who is still strong is dangerous, 3 seconds in boxing is enough for Chavez to slide in and land a hard punch. Now do i think the fight should've been stopped? I don't know. Both fighters gave a good fight, one was putting on a boxing clinic throughout most of the fight and scoring, while the other worked hard through the fight while absorbing a huge amount punches only to accumulate damage and make his punches count to break his opponent down at the very end. Excellent performance and i wont discredit either one, they are both CHAMPS in my book...

Memorable fight, full of action, Chavez did a great job staggering Taylor who didn't need to brawl with Chavez the way he did, anyways he deserved the win, the worst stoppage I've ever seen. Damn u Richard Steele.
