Comments Thread For: ESPN/DKP Contract Dispute Kills Spinks/Bundrage Card

BoxingScene.com has confirmed that ESPN's scheduled doubleheader for March 26 is off. The show was going to feature one of the bigger doubleheaders to appear on the network in some time. In the main event, Cory Spinks was going to defend his IBF junior middleweight title against mandatory Cornelius Bundrage, and cruiserweights Steve Cunningham and Matt Godfrey were going to battle in the co-feature for the vacant IBF title. I was never intrigued by this card anyway. I mean, Spinks will forever be the homie, but it just wasn't exciting at all.

Looks like they are really trying to stick it to DK! Sure as hell dont feel sorry for him. But, the fans shouldnt suffer again becuz some suits cant get their paperwork and deceptive contract language right the 1st time.

This is one of the main reason why I really want to get into the fight business. I would like the be the promoter who looks out for the fans & fighters 1st, then the sport itself. As long as my company stays in the black would be incentive enough to keep it moving. Oddly enough whenever I reach out to some knowledgeable ppl in the game they go silent.

well people the politics of my biz strike again, the fight seems off until further notice ,not by fault of either fighter ,and not by fault of espn2 ,so that leaves one more party and that party is full of greed and deception, only in america ,huh

I know DK is a greedy bastard

But, the writer of this article said that "Very unexpectedly, Loughrey sent a list of contract revisions earlier this week, which came after the very deadline he set and the show fell apart".
Which tells me that that the contract was initially agreed to by all 3 parties, yet Loughery decided to throw a wrench in it. You know how finnicky DK is, and know he does this **** a lot, yet Loughery decided to do a revised contract after it was agreed to.....
I blame DK for a lot of fights NOT happening, but until i see some sort of proof that it was solely DK's fault, i'm blaming espn's Loughery...

I can assure you that what you seek is very difficult to accomplish. I've been doing shows for 10 years now, and not only have I not made money, I've probably put $300,000 or better of my own money into the mix. Now granted, "making money" was the least important thing to me on my list of objectives when I started doing this, but you have to understand that it is impossible to accomplish all 4 things, because most times they are in conflict with each other. Whats best for your fighter is NOT necessarily whats best for the sport or the fans, and whats best for your wallet DEFINITELY is not whats best for ANY of the other 3. Take this list, and pick the 2 most important things......

                    1. The sport
                    2. The fighters
                    3. The fans
                    4. Your wallet

if youre lucky, you can accomplish 1,2, or maybe even 3 of these things, but no way anyone can do all 4. Something has to give.......
