He was as lame as a duck. Not the metaphorical lame duck
neither, but a real duck that was actually lame, maybe from stepping
on a land mine or something

I'm gonna have my say in this Hopkins - Pavlik situation.

I rate Hopkins win over Pavlik as a very good win because:

                  A. Hopkins was 43 (17 years older than Pavlik)

                  B. Pavlik was a 4-1 favourite and was even favored by many to be the first man to knock Hopkins out.

In regards to what happened in the ring, i think it came down to styles. Hopkins is a counter puncher with very good footwork and defensively, is still one of the best in the game. Hopkins is very crafty and punches at angles and has aton of dirty tricks in his arsenal.

That is the sort of style that Pavlik will always have trouble with, hell that style is a tough matchup for any fighter.

Pavlik showed us against Taylor in their second fight that if a fighter uses movement and counters against him, he is less effective. Taylor was able to box well but didn't have the stamina nor the techincal skills overall to do it for 12 rounds. Hopkins however, does have the stamina and skills which is why he made Pavlik look so average.

To be fair Pavlik did have to move up to 170 pounds which is 10 pounds more than what he weighs in at 160.Did the weight affect him ? possibly but regardless of weight Hopkins is stylistically a nightmare for Pavlik. Weight wouldn't have made THAT much of a difference in a fight between Hopkins and Pavlik.
