Mayweather: "If I leave boxing, the sport is dead"

In a radio interview with RA the Rugged Man, Floyd Mayweather proclaimed "If I leave boxing, the sport is dead"

Will boxing die when Floyd retires?

No, it wouldn't die, boxing will never die, it didn't die when Ali left or when Leonard-Hearns-Duran retired, and so forth and so on. However, I think what Floyd alludes to is that, the first time he retired, all talk, all commentary, all post-fight interviews in every big fight, all that was mentioned was Floyd, Floyd, Floyd.

Boxing experienced a ressurgence when he left and Pac took over the sport. Only Floyd and his followers believe otherwise.

Many greater and certainly more entertaining fighters retired before him and boxing didn't die.

Boxing was just fine before him and it'll be just fine without him. Don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya.
