Eloy “The Prince” Perez and Golden Boy Promotions agreed to a five-year contract, according to a trainer with Salinas-based Garcia Boxing.
Sam Garcia said Monday that the two sides came to an agreement Sunday afternoon after some back-and-forth negotiating over the past few months.
“We did talk with Top Rank, but we decided that with Shane Mosley at Golden Boy, it was a good fit,” Garcia said.
Perez (16-0-2, 4 KOs) is the third-ranked junior lightweight fighter by the World Boxing Organization. He is scheduled to fight May 1 in Las Vegas on the Shane Mosley-Floyd Mayweather Jr. card.
Salinas boxer Jose Celaya signed a one-year exclusive managerial and training contract with Ray Rossman of Pebble Beach. Rossman operates the Sand City Boxing Gym, 880 Tioga Ave.
Rossman said he’s eyeing a May 8 comeback for Celaya, possibly in London. Celaya’s (31-6, 16 KOs) last fight was a loss to Tony Hirsch in a four-round bout on November 21.
Is this kid any good?
Never heard of him.
