Comments Thread For: Manny Pacquiao-Joshua Clottey: Post-Fight Report Card

The “Event” was, well, uneventful in the ring. To be fair, there were plenty of pre-fight predictions which saw what happened ahead of time. It was still impressive in the unfolding. It’s one thing to have the skill set and athletic gifts, another to employ them. WBO Welterweight titlist Manny Pacquiao (51-3-2, 38 KO) employed them well. [Click Here To Read More]

Whats next for Clottey i wonder? I still want to see him fight because he holds (i think) and important position in the welterweight division. Strong, tough and seemingly unable to be hurt, he is still a big test for any fighter.
What do you think? Say Cotto beats Foreman could we see a Cotto/Clottey rematch at 154? Would Cotto want to? I know Josh would.
Or should he stay at 147 as a solid gatekeeper, beating off pretenders?

I have to disagree with the last part.

If Mosley beats Floyd by KO, I'd much rather see Pac-Mosley than Pac-Floyd.

Or rather I'd actually get my money's worth watching Pac-Mosley.

first of all this writter is a dumb ass....the fact that clottey never got hit clean should raise his rating for defense..the fact that he went in with no intention to hurt pac should not lower his defense rating...come on..1200 punches and none of them clean? Second, pac fan or clottey fan whatever..we should all get $40 bucks off the next top rank event...this was a rip-off...i rather get robbed wit a gun..atleast i know whats going on..pac wins, bob arum wins, clottey gets rewarded later by bob for his this favor, and we the fans and boxing lose.

Can't agree. Standing around doing nothing but shelling is not a good defense because it can't win. The point is hit and not get hit; not just don't get hit. That's not defense. It's a lack of trying.

I would too, but as soon as it ended, if Pac won, it's right back to Manny-Floyd. That won't stop being the richest fight in boxing for a while.

If you put what he says in a more hyperbole type of a statement, you don't grade a "heavy bag" with defense. At least that is critical thinking on the part of the writer and he gave out quite a good reason for his logic. Clottey never put himself in a position where he can throw more.

For similar styles, Winky defense >>> Clottey. If you grade Winky an A, you can most probably give Clottey a C.

This. I went a B because he can land out of that style. Just not enough to win when it matters and it was a massive liability (along with being what could be labeled starstruck) Saturday.

We'll ok Crold. Great article as usual. As yes, Clottey was very much starstruck that night... for both the number of fans and pacquiao. Lolz.
