    5 Lessons: Pac-Clottey

Arlington, Texas -- "The Event" between Manny Pacquiao vs Joshua Clottey concluded with a one-sided unanimous decision victory. We learned five lessons from this fight.

    Lesson # 1

Manny Pacquiao cannot just be considered a "Filipino icon."

The General Santos City-native is a global icon with U.S. mainstream appeal.

The attendance of 51,000+ at Jerry Jones' Cowboys Stadium included a diverse fan base of Filipinos, Hispanics, local Texans, and Americans who arrived in Arlington in droves to watch boxing's best pound-for-pound fighter.

Few foreign athletes have commanded this level of mass drawing power.

Examples: Soccer's Pele, hockey's Wayne Gretzky, South Korea's Kim Yuna, China's Yao Ming - maybe. Certainly, Manny Pacquiao.

LOL of the Month: '****! ****! ****!' observes Jim Lampley

    Lesson # 2
Boxing experts and commentators should have a grading system. Wall Street analysts (stock pickers) are graded, why not apply the same concept in this sport?

If a so-called expert's grade falls below a certain threshold, he or she gets fired. Pure, brutal meritocracy. For the benefit of readers. Don't pollute the airwaves or print news with trash.

With an unconventional southpaw in Pacquiao, boxing analysts have been proven wrong for the fourth consecutive time.

When the Filipino fought the much larger Oscar de la Hoya, the media considered it a circus act that posed serious health risks for the diminutive welterweight - a David vs Goliath pairing.

Outcome: De la Hoya did not want to continue fighting after the eighth round.

When Pacquiao took on Ricky Hatton, most experts predicted a tough fight given that the Brit only had one loss up until that point (against Floyd Mayweather, Jr). Many again questioned Pacquiao's ability to handle a bigger pressure fighter in Hatton.

PHOTOS: Pacquiao gets a one-sided win (AP)Outcome: Hatton almost visited his Creator in the after-life that night, but chose not to walk towards the 'light at the end of the tunnel.'

This past November, analysts questioned Pacquiao's ability to take a full blown welterweight's punch with Miguel Cotto as opposition. Additionally, experts suggested that since Cotto had dealt with speedy fighters such as Zab Judah and Shane Mosley, the Puerto Rican would be able to neutralize Pacquiao's speedy, unconventional, powerful, and southpaw assault.

Outcome: One-sided beatdown. And Cotto's face looked like a watermelon that had been dropped by kid pranksters from the third floor of an apartment building.

On Saturday, March 13th, many predicted that Joshua Clottey - who perhaps weighed 170 lbs during the fight - would be a tough and dangerous opponent for Pacquiao. Clottey possessed the size and strength against the 5' 6.5" Pacquiao, they said.

    Fight Prediction: Pacquiao vs Clottey

PHOTOS: "I tried my best," said Clottey (AP)Outcome: Clottey closed up underneath his shell for the entire duration of the fight. And simply wanted to make it out of the ring without pugilistic dementia. Lopsided score.

Pacquiao threw 1,231 punches. Clottey barely threw 400. No matter what is said about this fight, actions speak louder than words.

    Lesson # 3
Look for a possible UFC-Top Rank-Jerry Jones alliance. Dana White and Bob Arum appears to be in reconciliation, hinting that there might be mutual business development between the two. The future of both sports may just be "cross-pollination." Enhanced revenue by holding boxing-MMA bouts in large events such as in Jones' Cowboys Stadium. In such a setting, a boxing ring and an MMA octagon would be erected side by side, and the arena would attract fans from both sports.

PHOTOS: Filipinos watch their idol fight (AP)Operational synergy. UFC and White (who attended the Pacquiao-Clottey fight) would bring its fighters and fan base. Arum would bring his promotional horsepower, the Hispanic market, Top Rank boxers, and 40 years of business experience. Jerry Jones, well, no one can match his $1.2 billion behemoth. And the Pacquiao-Clottey bout proved that crowds are excited with prize fighting in a unique stadium setting.

The large capacity also ensures that there's enough money for the three partners. The live gate now has over three times the capacity over traditional Las Vegas casino venues. Secondly, people's disposable cash are no longer lost at ******** tables. A down U.S. economy means fans are conservative with their spending.

Aside from the business synergies, Arum gets his revenge on Oscar de la Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions, which is also in bed with Floyd Mayweather, Jr, who Arum despises.

    Lesson # 4
You can tell a man what he wants to hear. Or what he needs to hear.

Secondly, forgiveness may be a spiritual virtue, but not a benchmark management / organizational practice.

The honeymoon inside Team Pacquiao is over. When Manny Pacquiao first arrived in the United States in the early 2000s, he was an unknown fighter in Los Angeles.

Today, the expectations are at its apex. Attitudes are different. The team flies on 'Air Pacquiao.' The entourage, mostly comprised of so-called 'LA Boys,' have ballooned to over 140.

The growth in Pacquiao's massive entourage is not sustainable, and pretty soon aides and security men will have to exercise some sort of filtering process. Reportedly, dozens were given $3,000 despite not having any concrete work responsibilities or duties, but for the simple fact of hanging around Pacquiao's Los Angeles apartment.

Gone are the simple boyish joys, the initial tastes of success, the free-wheeling and carefree attitudes. Replaced by arrogance, an "I am better than you" mentality has pervaded through certain sections of the camp. Many are guarded. Perhaps there are threats that have yet to be disclosed to the general public.

PHOTOS: Cotto watches 'The Event' ringside (AP) Many question motives behind actions or simple queries. Team Pacquiao, in a few short years, has transformed into a cesspool of ****, thieves, and plotting, Machiavellian courtesans. ***********al would be a kind phrase. 'Human barnacles,' to borrow Chris Mannix's non-euphemistic term on Sports Illustrated.

An ace of spades is an ace of spades. If it oinks, it's a pig - not a dog.

On multiple occasions the entire fight week in Dallas, there were expressions of frustration from people in the know. Several people.

To be sure, there are well-meaning intentions from some. And some are genuine friends of the champ.

As Pacquiao transitions from best boxer on the planet into political aspirant, this now evolves into a matter of leadership and management ability and capability. His entourage will start to reflect Pacquiao's capacity to lead and manage on a larger, provincial scale.

Judging from body language, there are hidden power plays spurred from an alarmed urgency that "the time to make money off of Manny is now," prior to the champ's retirement, and prior to Pacquiao's deeper foray into politics.

In investment banking, there is a saying: "half of what you see, none of what you hear." When a big shot broker tours a company, he is assessing body language. To read between the lines. To understand what is not being spoken.

Ha, so there is a media blackout on dirty laundry. That's understandable. '48 Laws of Power' stuff.

More on this rich topic later.

    VIDEO: Pacquiao post-fight interview

    Lesson # 5
Floyd Mayweather, Jr (40-0) is a douche for killing his prospective fight with the Filipino legend. At the post-fight interview, Freddie Roach and Pacquiao are clearly interested in fighting the boxer who professes to be the greatest in the history of the sport.

Not only does Mayweather claim to be greater than Sugar Ray Robinson and Muhammad Ali, he has accused Pacquiao's team of using illegal substances without the slightest credible proof or circumstantial evidence. After he hurls a baseless charge, what does the douche do? Fight Shane Mosley - a boxer who has taken performance enhancing drugs (PEDs). Most credible, gashole.

Mayweather is the greatest defensive talent of this era. Reportedly, he is losing a lot of money from ********. He is a big failure in life, and a horrible example to kids who express their aspirations through competitive athletics.

The Boxing Writers' Association of America (BWAA) should create an annual "Idiot of the Year" award and "Idiot of the Decade" award. In that respect, "Money" is one of the greatest in the history of boxing, and one of the greatest in the history of sports.
