A boxing explanation of why Clottey didn't let his hands go

For those of you who think "the fight was fixed" or "Clottey is too defensive minded", etc. etc. There is a simple reason why Clottey didn't throw as many punches and stayed in his shell.

In the latter stage of round 1, Pacquiao countered Clottey's jab with a right hook . Although their feet were tangled, it definitely knocked Clottey off balance. This right hook counter of the jab was used again and again. Each time, Clottey felt the punches. At that point, Clottey's only two choices was to throw when he was countering or when he was absolutely sure Pacquiao was unable to counter (i.e. when Pacquiao was on his back foot or turning).

It is quite obvious if you watch the fight closely. I don't know how people can think this has any significance to him fighting Mayweather. If anything, it may show that Manny might be able to counter May's jab. But I am not sure, since May's jab is pretty fast (Clottey's jab is pretty good though).
