Comments Thread For: Making Moves: BoxingScene Ratings and Results Update

By Cliff Rold - The last four weeks saw the status quo maintained in some parts of the scale, major changes in others.

The biggest development probably came at 140 lbs. as boxing sees the development of a potential serious star of the future. Devon Alexander, at only 23, already has two belts, just stopped a massive puncher who’d only ever been down once, and is already calling for a showdown with division leader Timothy Bradley. Something special could be happening where those two are concerned. [Click Here To Read More]

Khan and Hatton are rated far too high.

Khan, by egregiously ducking Maidana, and paying him off not just for one fight, but for three, has shown he's not willing to fight anyone to whom he thinks he might lose. Their excuse is that boxing is a business, but boxing isn't only a business, it's also a sport, and this sort of craven, borderline corrupt, behaviour discredits the sport and damages the long term health of the business. Maidana should be rated ahead of Khan, because Khan is clearly too scared to fight him.

Hatton has ballooned in weight much more than he usually does between fights, and appears to have lost much of his punch resistance. I wouldn't favour him to win against any top 10 Jnr Welterweight any more.

Hatton is the last lineal champ and has better creds than almost anyone right now but the guys above him...however, I anticipate dropping him altogether come May for a year's inactivity. Maidana could leap soon enough if he beats Cayo. Con's win over Kotelnik is the best of the rest...for now.

As to Donaire, the only fighter I could see ranking over him at 115 is Nashiro. It's a close call. Donaire had quite a few fights at 115 before and he did knock the current champ senseless.

Agreed, I just don't think he has it any more.

              Fair enough.

Lol at "Con"! I guess that means you're annoyed with the over-protection of him as well.

But if Maidana beats Cayo, will you move him above Khan, even if Khan beats Malignaggi? I think you should.

Styles make fights. Kotelnik only sc****d by Maidana, and was beaten easily by Khan - but Maidana would be a much bigger test for Khan right now than Kotelnik was, and a far bigger test than Malignaggi is - which Roach knows, and that's precisely why they ducked Maidana.

When a fighter blatantly ducks someone, especially a mandatory, and when the reason is clearly that he's scared of losing to them, I think that fighter's ratings should be affected.

It depends...if Ortiz gets punked by Campbell, it further devalues the best win Maidana has and he and Con have the Kotelnik split.

Simple, Donaaire has not beaten a top 30 Super FlyWeight.
