Most of the people calling him a nobody are other promoters who are mad that HBO and Golden Boy promised him so much money and so many coveted dates on HBO. While I agree that his name recognition as of today doesn't exactly justify the deal he got, I think HBO and Golden Boy actually got him got fairly cheap considering his star potential.
That said, he's in a really tough division. I have a hard time seeing him beat Tim Bradley, Devon Alexander and even possibly Victor Ortiz. Then if he goes up to 147 he's going to have a hell of a time beating Andre Berto, Shane Mosley and Floyd Mayweather.
But his star potential is undeniable. In the past year I've had three complete non-fans (not casual fans...complete non-fans) of the sport tell me that they like Amir Khan almost immediately after I told them boxing is my favorite sport. Die hard fans will watch him. He's just got to bridge the gap he has among casual fans. If he continues to win, I think he'll do that in 2010. He just has to win and I'm not positive he'll do that at the highest level.

he did that with joe calzhaghe and it was only when he sacked warren and became his own promoter that he finally had permission to fight in the states, and retired in style against jones.
