By Terence Dooley - Joan Guzman’s childhood in the Dominican Republic was so impoverished the youngster had to venture outside for shelter when the rain came; the leaky roof of the family home rendered useless by a patchwork of holes and tears. Indeed, when Guzman won the Central American Boxing title as an amateur the Dominican president, H. E. Joaquin Balaguer, presented the teenager with a family home. [Click Here To Read More]

Well, then if it was such a weight issue the last time I hope he stayed busy at the gym since November because it was not too long ago that he found out he was fighting Funeka again. And as much as I like Joan...he needs to be humble and not say that he believes he won that fight. Come on Joan! Anyway, the funny thing is that he talks a lot about weight but not one time does he say that is making weight or that he is in top shape...hmmm...he needs to come beyond prepared for this fight! I have a feeling Funeka is going to go at him hard right away. This might be good for Joan though as he is a good counter puncher..that's his fight. Tip-Top shape or Joan has no chance! And stay away from Funeka's right bomb!

Guzman does seem to be making excuses but it is possible. The guy has filled out but he's more of an old man.

I think it's good to train at places you don't have distractions. He's going to Manchester which has a decent amount of boxers for the UK I think. Brawling type guys.

Good luck to him and having Kayes is good for him.

guzman should have a 1 in the loss column.

it's guzman's fault for not staying disciplined.

guzman likes beard because beard will keep his fat ass in shape. guzman doesn't need beard for any technical advice.

Guzman is right about Dominican food being delicious and very fattening. I can't think of one dish that is healthy. Almost everything is swimming in oil.

if guzman's tempted by delicious food then training in the UK is the right move.

thats so true ! i live out here in queens and its hard as hell for me to stay in tip top shape cuz my mother always cooking dominican food and i have no choice but to eat it.. but if i were to train in florida or anywhere to get away from the food then il be in tip top shape.
