A prime Steve Forbes was also fairly good with the shoulder roll.

James Toney my ni99a, James ****in Toney

Pernell was the flashiest defensive fighter, it wasn't the most effective though

          Shoulder roll: James Toney
Reflex based defense: Pernell Whitaker (shout out to Roy Jones Jnr)
Shell defense: My mind has gone completely blank so I'll just agree on Winky Wright
Best at slipping punches: Hmmm... Nicolino Locche, Roberto Duran, Wilfred Benitez

Mayweather's defense is so great because he can do all of these things.

True, he does the shoulder roll against orthodox, shell against southpaws, and the reflex is integrated into both.

That's why James Toney is a better representation because he's not as fast, so he has to make it up with wrinkles.

The original shell is Frazier and Foreman, but the modified shell is Winky, Abraham, and Clottey. Good list though.

Great pick of fighters. Pep is worth a mention too.

Ike Quartey had a tight guard

Marlon Starling had a really good shell defense also
