Indians living in India don't seem to be interested in boxing whatsoever so maybe in order to get Indians into boxing it must be among those Indians living in European countries and America.

I seen a pretty good Indian boxer last Olympics. One of the only boxers that caught my eye.

There are many different kinds of Indians from different parts of the country.
They can be very arrogant and racist against woman, especially The PUNJABI.

The Indian Olympian (bronze medalist) Vijender Singh is currently the number 1 rated Middleweight amatuer in the world. He's bringing a lot of boxing exposure to youngsters and adults alike.

Could be the step India needs to open eyes for the sport of Boxing in the country.

I'm sure India had a great wrestling background too? That's a physically demanding sport, although I think much of their wrestling is cultured.

The ignorance in This thread is quite absurd too. No matter how big the population, the country just isn't as developed as the Western world. *

Poverty, lack of malnutrition, neglected infrastructure, the lack of sponsorship, the theft of money and equipment, political corruption, institutional disorganization, social immobility, the predominance of cricket and other cultural factors all could point to reasons ad why sports such as Boxing is not highly regarded. * *

India has never been a force in the Olympics, unlike China who is investing heavily into their sporting programs. The only sport that Indians care about is cricket and they still lose to Britain.

Maybe they just like to chill and NOT beat the hell out of each other in the ring. But I'll tell you one thing, M. Ghandi might not have been a boxer, or a fighter; but was still able to stand up to an Entire country because he stood up for what he believed in. If that ain't alpha, then nothing is.

The fact of the matter is this.

Indians do not care much for sports because they care about putting food on the table for their large families. They would rather work then spend time playing any sort of sports.

                    Consider this:

India leads the world in probably 8 of the most horrific practices in human nature

They have the highest number of illeterates

They have the highest number of alcoholics

they have the highest number of people with HIV/AIDS

They have the highest % of poverty

They have the highest crime rate and murder rate (this is because there are so many social castes, religious groups, riots, and considering the fact that tehre are 40 cities with 1 million + people, violence is always a problem) Likewise more people die per day (which partially explains the huge population. Most people live for the day and take it a day at a time. life is not peaceful there by no means.

They have the highest number of **********s

They also have the highest % of malnutrition in the world and

they top the entire world in Corruption. India is hte most corrupt country in our world and it shows clearly.

Government is not doing its job, access to clean water is about slim to none for more than 50% of the population. Farming and agriculture are shot because of the same politicians. Likewise, people care more about work than sports. The concept of Education has been a backbone of india for years. That is why they only care about education and labour. Not sports.

Indians top the management and scientific fields (these are the people that come out of the indian education system and make billions elsewhere).

Also, it is a young country. we have only had independence for 62 years. Give it time, and India will emerge. Its just because of the rising population adn corrupt government, is because things arent getting done.

Now I know China has restrictions around pro boxing, but that India statistic is laughable.

                      Just thought of it....

How many medals did China and India got in boxing so far in the Olympics, anybody know?.
