it's true both had tremendous athletic abilities in their prime. made people wonder how the **** do they do the **** they do on a daily basis but once age starts kicking in they lose their abilities.

Since they not used to real hard work for a long time since they just relied on natural abilities they get out in a situation where they have to work hard but body/mind will not let them hence they fall down!!!!!!!!!

Carter is stil putting up 16 a game and some of his practice dunks are pretty amazing so he's less shot than Jones.

One thing I will say don't make the mistake of thinking it's just all natural ability.

Nobody, I repeat, nobody succeeds on natural ability alone in either sport.
Both guys had to learn and know their craft and fight out of many different situations.
Jones is just old and shot now, but he had plenty of skill to go along with anything natural he has.

True but if you read about both players you can see that they put in less effort and rely on their abilities to bail them out.

I'm not saying they don't work hard but probably not as hard as other athletes.

I always said RJJ relied solely on his natural ability. He didn't learn or should I say master the fundamentals. In his prime he fought with his hands down and threw loopy shots. Sure they worked but you see as he got old, he couldn't react or move as fast as he used to. Thats where the fundamentals would have really benefited him if he would have taken the time to better perfect them.

Ever notice how Vitali K fights with his hands down and his mouth open.

He makes two big mistakes yet slays people.

not a good comparison. vc was still putting up 20-5-5 after his athleticism went.
RJJs more like penny hardaway, just substitute getting injured multiple times with getting ko'd multiple times.

I agree. VC is just a shell of what he used to be. Same with RJJ.

I think both work hard to win, but their bodies just can perform like it used to.

I think the same thing about Zab Judah.
Whe Judah and RJJ were in their prime they had amazing natural ability and opponents couldn't deal with it. They didn't fight with great fundamentals and they didn't need to because they had incredible speed and reflexes. Now that they are older and shot, they still fight the same way, but opponents are able to take advantage of the lack of fundamentals in their styles.
