Comments Thread For: Jhonny Gonzalez-Antonio Davis: WBC Eliminator on 3/20

A WBC featherweight eliminator has been set for March 20 in Cancun, Mexico. Former champion Jhonny Gonzalez (42-7, 36KOs) will take on Antonio Davis (26-5, 13KOs). The winner will come one step closer to a fight with champion Elio Rojas. Gonzalez has won two in a row since being stopped in three by Toshiaki Nishioka in 2009. Davis was knocked out in four rounds in his last fight, against Humberto Soto nearly a year ago. David moved up to super featherweight for that fight.

Jhonny would be a pound for pound fighter if he had a better chin. He gots good power speed combination and can win againts the best. Even in his looses he was winning like with vazquez and penalosa and in his last tittle fight too, but even now he could fight againts the best and win againts most.

You are right on with that, he has the tools but his chin lets him down

that's got to be dissapointing for him, to do so well in a fights and then get caught with one big shot and lose

he's got the skillset, too bad he dosen't have the chin

Love Gonzalez, but you have to be effing kidding me that a fight with Antonio Davis is considered a "title eliminator." Davis, 37, was last seen getting KO'd in 4 rounds a year ago in a title fight with Humberto Soto. He previously lost title fights to Guzman and Luevano by wide margins without earning the shots in the first place. Three title losses in three years, and in none of the three was the fight remotely close.
Dude is becoming the Manny Siaca of the featherweight/junior featherweight division.
          Total set-up fight for Jhonny

I think that with a new trainer who could teach him head movement and a better defense he can become a force. But i think even right now he could take elios belt.

davis is a lucky guy,he loses his last fight, but now he gets another shot at an eliminator..lol...funny,all his loses have come against pretty good guys, soto, guzman, cherry, luevano and the once prospect gogolodze,he should take advantage,at his age he's getting another shot, win this and next one is for title, again
